Post ablation Covid riskes

I am 67 and getting an ablation tomorrow. I have had my pre-procedure covid test and this is clear; however my wife is starting to get more and more concerned about the risk to me if I get covid afterwards. Does anybody know if this should be a greater concern than at any other time?

Short answer is no. Trouble is we are all different. For most people covid right now is a bit like flu (if you are fully vaccinated). I know people who have continued their daily run and people who couldn't walk up stairs or get out of bed.

Do read our fact sheet on recovery and pay atention to the bit where we say REST!

Thanks, I have no desire to lock myself away after this and I have every intention of taking matters gently during the initial periods of recovery. I normally do a 5 mile walk each morning but I will see how it goes with short local walks to start with.

Please read the fact sheet! First week stay in the house and no running up stairs. Week 2 be very gentle with yourself.

BobD, do you know why I can never open any of the links that people on this forum post? It always says “400 bad request” when I click on any links. I tried looking that up and I could only find something about servers. I am on Comcast in the US and have no trouble opening links other than this forum? Thanks.

No idea unless US system different to UK . I have a vague idea somebody else mentioned probems in US opening UK links. I'm not tech savvy I'm afraid.

Thanks, I have downloaded the fact sheet and printed it so that my wife has read it as well. I also had a problem with the link in Microsoft Edge as it said it was not a secure download, but Google Chrome was quite happy to allow the download.

Hi. Just by being overnight in hospital I would say.

NZ I hada Surgical Mesh removal. I flew down, taxied to motel, taxied to North Shore hospital followind da. Had a precovid test surgery. No mask. All 4 of us had curtains drawn so I withdrew mine.

Visitors did not hsve covid test!

Driving Miss Daisy drove me 1/2 way home. After bladder emptied and blood test OK.

auckland was ramp with Covid Northlaand was not.

I got past OK.

I go out from home 2-3 times a week only. I choose local 4 square to shop.

If you are fully vaccinated, with the booster, the evidence seems to be clear that the two omicron variants aren't causing people to become seriously ill. Most people, from what I can read, are either asymptomatic or have a cough, cold or flu-like illness for maybe a week. Some seem to have longer term problems with smell and taste, and I've heard and read of tiredness and similar, even "brain fog", but overall, I think this variant is "good" news for society compared with the previous ones.

Thanks, I agree and being an respiratory tract infection it shouldn't have a direct impact on ablation recover anyway.

I have just read something more concerning long covid. It seems that the new variant can still cause that much like the previous forms, even with a mild or symptom free case. Apparently for a year or more after infection people are more prone to heart and even brain related issues caused somehow by the virus.

There’s such a dearth of information on this - and what exists is confused by the fact that vaccination and covid strain changes are often not considered. The cavalier approach that our government seems to be imply it’s all but over but then I read that that’s very much not the case. Either doctors and scientists genuinely don’t know or we are being misled. Fortunately, covid hospital numbers are staying low.
