Cryo ablation day 4

Hi

I just thought I'd post some of my thoughts on my experience this week.

I haven't posted very much on here but I have been an avid reader and learnt a lot. It has allowed me to manage my expectations and along with the info from the EP I knew what I was in for on the day of the ablation and the recovery.

The care at the hospital was excellent from start to finish. It is daunting in the cath lab but I was well prepared. The procedure was fine. I slept for much of it. The EP told me to expect a feeling of hiccups when they stimulated the nerve (Phrenic nerve I think) mmm not like any hiccups I've had!. It was very unpleasant but apart from that everything else was good and it didn't last long.

The EP came to see me later, explained everything he'd done, to maybe expect to come back for a further ablation which he said would be like a top up as he'd done the big one.

He said he would see me in three months and took out a Kardia machine from his pocket and said he was giving me this and when it comes near to the appointment send him some readings. I didn't need it as I already have one but I was amazed.

I am feeling good today and I know if it wasn't for this site I would be up and about doing all sorts of things I shouldn't. I think the hospitals should stress the need to rest more. I have a month off work so I can take it nice and slow.

As for my heart, well it's been calm for most of the time but it has its moments but I know I have to wait for 3 months. I'm still on my journey to hopefully being free from this awful condition that rules our lives. I hope this gives encouragement to people deciding whether to have an ablation although I know it's early days yet. This site and the people on it helped me to make my mind up to have it done and to approach it with a positive mindset.

Thank you to all you old timers who take the trouble to pass on your knowledge and experiences regularly.

Anita

Thanks Anita. This is great to read as I prepare for my initial consult on NHS with the EP. I'm very conflicted about having this procedure in case I go through a load of ups and downs again.

Love your name Dickieticker! Well done. I am three weeks post cryo ablation - know what you mean re hiccups - mine were more like extreme indigestion but soon passed, whole thing spooky but much easier than I had feared. I was tired for first week then seemed fine second but had two days of exhaustion. Good luck!
