I feel for you as I’m sitting here with my feet up and my support stockings on because I have ‘swim bands’ around my ankles. I was fine until the very hot day when I had to do a bit of pruning above my head so we could get past our bonkers grapevine. Realised I had suddenly put on 2kg which I guess is mostly fluid 🥵 Of course if I had an episode of AF (which I was expecting ) that would get rid of it pronto but since I was put on BP meds I haven’t had an episode - can’t win.
I think the question is whether the problem is poor circulation or heart failure. So swollen ankles from poor circulation is fluid pooling in your feet but from HF is extra fluid in your whole body, so I was told. But obviously for your doctors to decide ❤️🩹
Diltiazem caused my ankles and feet to swell up such that I could barely get into any of my shoes. When my doctor switched me to a stronger beta blocker then I had been taking the swelling slowly went away. It's now been about 2 months and I'm just about back to normal. In that period I had an ablation which appears to have worked. With both these factors now apparently cured I really am feeling normal again.
I’ve been on Diltiazem for a while now and had the dose reduced right down to 60mg modified release daily, really because of the fluid retention. It’s a known side effect of Diltiazem but my GP has prescribed furosemide, a diuretic/water tablet for me to take when it gets bad. Support stockings help and of course relaxing with your feet above your heart level. Talk to your GP about it.
