Practical query ref ablation!

Musing on practical matters here. I know it is a requirement to have a personal "close shave" but what about knickers? Being of a nervous disposition I don't fancy doing a full Monty in front of the ablation crew!

When I've had various operations ( I know this is a proceedure ) I've been knocked out so for all I know my modesty has been compromised before! But UHCW don't do GA for ablation.

If anyone can enlighten me us appreciate it !

Hi there I was provided with a pair of “ lovely” hospital pants to preserve my modesty during my ablation last week . And the entire team were very respectful do not worry

Thank you very much! Hope you are doing ok and resting up.🙂💞

I had my ablation 6 days ago, doffed my pants pre op, quite readily, but the staff kept my gown and blanket preserving most of my modesty. After three hip ops, and a bowel one and two births (in reverse order) I don’t mind. The shaving was quickly and expertly done. I found the staff very sensitive to my feelings. Good luck with it!

I am female despite the Lord! I shaved down there and had no underwear for the Ablation.... but it was a general anaesthetic.

I was desperate for the loo hours later when I woke up in the ward. I had to use a bed pan..... the nurse assisted in this!

So every little piece of dignity, gone!!

I'll take my glasses off then so all is blurry! Lol! Oh dear ...😄😄😄

They always provided me with paper knickers therefore before the procedure you can maintain your modesty.

After is a different matter and normally they had disappeared without a trace.

I promise you that by that time you will have other matters on your mind.

Morning Wilson. I would suggest you prepare yourself before the op day. Boots sell an electric razor for us girls particularly for that area of our body. You don’t need a ‘full monty’ at all. The surgery team have seen it all before so I wouldn’t worry. I just had a gown on and nothing else pre surgery. Good luck and hope the ablation is successful for you. 👌

Just a further comment more practical than modesty related, what is certain is that, post procedure, there will be quite a large adhesive dressing at the top of your leg and well into the bikini line.

These both seal better ( infection control) and remove with less pain if they are stuck to smooth skin so I agree pretend you are going to the beach in Brazil not UHCW,

under sedation modesty seems to take a bit of a back seat . You will be fine

I would recommend not shaving before your admission for the procedure. The current thinking is that you shave too early it increases risk of infection if there are any cuts. If any shanving is required (it often isnt) the team can let you know how much to shave when you are in hospital. Gorgeous paper pants are provided before the procedure, and get torn over the side where the tubes are put in, and then your body is then covered over by a sterile drape. This hopefully maintains your dignity as much as possible during the procedure! Hope your procedure goes well Wilson :)

I had velcro trousers which they ripped open in the procedure room! I had hospital knickers under them which they cut open by the outer edge. None of my bits were ever down, though tbh I was too terrified about my heart to care 😂😂😂😂😂

It was no big deal, they drape you and only shave what is absolutely necessary. Believe me, anything they need to do is worth the outcome !! I had it done in August at Mayo Jax. Not an event since and my afib every day for a min of 12 hours plus SVT.. It grows back !

All this talk of paper underwear reminds me of when I was in the Band of the Grenadier Guards. Paper underwear was a bit of a thing in the 1970's so one of out musicians thought it might be a good idea to wear a pair of paper underpants on a Changing of the Guard. It was a lovely hot Summers day for the guard so has you can imagine we all got rather hot with our thick red tunics and bearskin caps. When we got back to Chelsea Barracks (quite a march from Buckingham Palace) all that was left of this chaps paper underpants was the elastic round his waste. I could just imagine all the bits of soggy tissue scattered down Buckingham Palace Road after the guard!Thought this might make a few of us chuckle......

😀Still taking it easy after my ablation at St. Thomas's in London four weeks ago on Monday. Fingers crossed all OK.
