Hi All, I've asked about this before, but I am anxious about it, as I had a TIA before AF was diagnosed.
Next week, I am having upper Dental Implants carried out, first thing in the morning. The dentist wants me to miss the previous evenings dose of Apixaban, and withhold the morning ( day of surgery ) dose until later in the day. Does this seem reasonable to you guys.

Yes. Although Apixaban has a 12hour half life, missing one dose shouldn’t affect you too much as there is always some left in your system and you can take your next dose at your normal time.
I’ve done that for several procedures with no ill effects.
I recently had surgery so had to stop my Apixaban 2 days before and not restart until 2 days after so I missed 5 days in all, no ill effects but then I haven't had a previous Tia.
When I had ankle surgery last December, I was off Apixaban for about 4-5 days ( brain fog from pain meds ), but I was given Daltaparin, injection into tummy, which gives you cover, did youhave this ?
My GP said I would be very unlucky to have stroke in 24 hours or so that I am off Apixaban 🤞
I also was diagnosed with a fib after a TIA. Recently had two front teeth extracted for implants to take place on Monday. Dentist gave treatment without stopping my Apixaban. No problem.
Yes, well my instincts would be to stay on it, and I have a friend whose husband stayed on it, whilst taking Apixaban, but my dentist a bit twitchy about it.
He said there is infection there and he has to scrape it out and deep clean before putting implants in.
I think that sounds safe enough. Implants are definitely the way forward - with or without AFib. Just make sure you get straight back onto the meds as soon as the Dental guy is comfortable and I would let your Heart people know what you are doing too, so they can pass comment if required.
Good luck with the implants. I had one a couple of years ago - brilliant!
I had 2 upper dental implants 2 years ago and, when I asked my dentist when should I stop my apixaban, he said there was no need. I don't know what he did, but there was no problem with excessive bleeding at all.
Hi I recently had two implants but didn't come off the apixaban so decisions vary depending on which dentist you use, mine bled a bit but not excessively.
