Hi all. On October 21st it will have been my 3 month post SVT ablation date. Right now I feel good, I’m weaning myself off of the metoprolol slowly, by taking a full 25 mg tab in the morning and then half a tab at night. I know I am impatient, that’s become very clear to me after this procedure lol!! But I genuinely would love to know when you all started returning to totally normal life. I have anxiety every day because I am scared I’m going to push myself too hard and I am nervous to engage in the activities that I used to and I am nervous to do the things in the gym that I used to, (although I’ve been back for about a month now taking it easy.) Would love to hear your input. I don’t want to live in fear.

When can I return to normal?
Also I want to add that I know in theory 3 months isn’t a long time, but when you’re taking life day by day it seems like such a drag.
Not an easy question to answer because we are all different and therefore react differently to recovering from procedures. After 3 months you should be able to return to relatively normal activities but the question is what, in your case, is normal. No doubt you are aware that extreme sporting activity is a well known cause for arrhythmias so if your “normal” fits within that category then there is a very real risk that you could wreck all the hard work that both you and your medics have put in to get you where you are today. Talking of which, I assume you are reducing medication on the advice of your Doctor. The general advice we offer relating to exercise is listen to your body so any signs of over exertion should be heeded.......
Yes, initially I wasn’t supposed to be on beta blockers at all and he wanted me off of them after 2 weeks but I was nervous to come off of them so I’m just now getting around to it. He advised that I’d be good to go after a week after my procedure but obviously I did not feel good enough to do that. I’ve only done what my doctor has advised me to do, which was to get back in the gym and do very minimal stuff but still keep my body moving.
I’ve just read this again and I think you are a being a bit of a crafty 22 yr old! October 21 is almost 3 weeks away so if you have if you went back to your gym a month ago then it suggests you started to push the envelope only 4/5 weeks after you ablation. So who is kidding who? No matter how frustrating it must be, your engine has needed some fairly drastic reconditioning so if you don’t run it in properly there’s a possibility it will seize up and then where will you be!.......your decision.
I’ve only done what my surgeon and doctor have advised that I do. He actually said that after a week I should go back to totally normal, now that obviously wasn’t the case and I didn’t feel up to it. And by me going back to the gym I mean I’m walking on the treadmill at the lowest speed for about 10 mins just to get my body moving. Wasn’t looking to be scolded.
Not trying to scold you....honest, just don’t want you to do too much too quickly.
My apologies, it’s hard to tell over a screen! I appreciate your feedback.
I would be inclined to step it up a little. I found the inner confidence I gained in after getting back to normal (without going mad) brought the whole cycle of enjoying life and having confidence in my own health along in leaps and bounds.
Hiya
I'm a fair bit older than you, but very sporty. I've been posting about my ablation recovery each month th which you might find helpful. I'm a slow healer though.
And remember exercise is much better for you than a sedentary lifestyle. Its the hours and hours of high intensity stuff you might want to avoid ie fast ultra running, long triathlons with heavy training.
Good luck
It's been almost 14 months for me since my ablation, bit of a roller coaster journey. Since my ablation i have reduced my metraprol to 25mg a day, i was on 50mg before the ablation. But my journey been up and down i have had really good months and really bad months especially these last 3 months as i have daily ectopics, but at one stage i was in fear of making my heart do any exertion i use to only walk to the shops if that which is 2 mins away but now i can play football do weight training and do cardio, i think i will always be fearful and aware of my heart going forward but everyone different in their recovery
I’m happy to hear that you’ve been able to return to some sort of normalcy for yourself! I hope to be able to do that as well. I guess I have for the most part, but I’ve not been able to drink (which I realize is not that big of a deal, but when everyone around you is it does kinda suck), or get back to what I’m doing in the gym as I’ve mentioned. I know in good time I’ll be able to though. Appreciate your response!
