18 days post ablation!

I thought I would give an update as to how things are with me.

Firstly, I was lucky to only have had occasional visual disturbances over the first 3 or 4 days and have had none since, I do get strange heart bumps and jumps every day, but to honest that isn't any different to how it was pre procedure. I was also getting some light chest pain with head aches for the first few days but this has decreased too, I do get the occasional 'heart ache' now but no headache with it.

I was having strange gasping breaths regularly for the first week but these have thankfully been decreasing as the time has moved on. They didn't particularly bother me, but I think they may have done if they had continued at the same level to now.

If I wake up during the night whilst laying on my left side I find myself in some uncomfortable chest pain, however, it does go within a few minutes of moving onto my back or onto my right side. Thankfully this has only happened a few times! I do try my best not to lay on that side but I am a real fidget in bed and often don't know I have, until it wakes me up.

I have only done very short walks up until today, which have been fine. During the very hot weather we recently had I didn't walk at all, in fact, I really can't imagine why anyone would want to walk in all that heat!

Af visited me on day 11, thankfully for only a very short time (around 15 minutes) during the night, again, after being woken up from sleeping on my left side. I was thankful it didn't continue so didn't need to use my pip.

Today I went for a slightly longer walk and did a total of around 3500 steps, I do walk very slowly at the moment because I am very aware of not pushing myself too much. The route I walk is quite flat with only one slight slope, but after walking around two thirds of it I became very breathless and realised I had gone into af. I had to stop a couple of times and leaned against some garden walls, then found a bus stop bench to sit on for a while. I checked on my kardia when I eventually got back and yes, it confirmed I was in af, with a heart rate of 145. I took my bisoprolol pip and my fleacainide pip and thankfully reverted back to NSR within 30 mins.

Onward and upwards...

Good to hear your progress. I occasionally get those gasping breaths too, so strange. Please take it easy and don’t overdo it. Keep us updated x
