FOUND CAUSE OF BLOOD IN URINE

Hi -- a couple months ago we discussed people who were having blood in their urine. Mine was awful, clear during the day and dark brown in the evening. I tested everything I was eating, all the supplements I was taking, etc. Nothing seemed to coorelate with the blood appearing at night. Finally my doctor suggested that it was probably just the riveroxaban. So she cut me from 20 mg each evening to 15 mg--- and poof! All the blood instantly disappeared from my urine, it is clear as water every minute now. She said that older people (I am 72) often have this problem, and I am still protected from stroke just fine with only 15 mg. What we don't know is why this only started after I was on riveroxaban for more than a YEAR --- but I don't really care. I am good now.

You must be very relieved.Losing blood from an unknown cause is one of the most scary things.....and good for you to know your GP is on the ball.

yes, but I don't know why she didn't suggest this sooner. I went through this blood for 3 months, trying to find the cause on my own, etc before she suggested that it might be the Xeralto.

I changed to Rivaroxaban and after a week had a nose bleed which lasted 1/2 hour. Not nice. I even tried dropping to 15mg dose but I'm afraid I didn't trust it.

I reverted back to Warfarin. Been stable on that for quite a few years now.

Good luck

I have exactly the same problem, ie blood in my urine. Had umpteen tests and just about to start another round. I have lost quite a lot of weight during lockdown and was not heavy to begin with. I also have joint pain flare ups, am 75 yrs of age and am convinced that the origin of both problems is Apixaban. I mentioned to the GP that I was now on or just below the recommended weight for reducing the dose, but below the age recommendation which is 80 and wanted to halve the dose. She did not agree. Contacted my cardiologist who did, to start with immediate effect. I started the new regime this week, will be having further tests within the next couple of weeks and hope that I have cracked it.

Xeralto.. Terrible for me . Cause of severe intestinal bleed after being on 20mg for a couple of months. Had cardiac ablation and Watchman device implant. As part of post implant medication i needed anticoagulants ( XERALTO) and antiplatlets(Asprin). Consequently i developed severe intestinal bleed and also copious amounts of blood in urine.

As a result i was taken off xarelto but remain on asprin for the timebeing.

Bleeding stopped altogether.

Will never take this terrible drug again.
