For some year’s suffered from atrial ectopics checked out by cardiologist said not a problem don’t worry about it. 3 days ago Kardia result suggested tachycardia without AF. Still getting results night and day of beats 125 to 130 p minute. BP normal, no pain etc. Local GP says just monitor it unless any pain tight chest etc then cal 999 ! Any ideas ? Take BP medication including 10 mg bisoprol, also hormone treatment for prostate cancer. Started for no apparent reason but after 3 day’s starting to worry

Atrial ectopics now tachycardia
It is possisble the hormones (Zoladex implants?? done that worn out the t shirt) may be having an affect although it never did for me over the three years I was on them.
A rate of 130-140 would suggest atrial tachycardia which should be investigated IMHO as should any long term rates over 100 so please go back to your GP and ask to be referred.
Thanks BonD I’m on aberaterone with prednisalone, will take your advice and ring GP tomorrow
If you are very concerned consider ringing 111, you may get a different response.
Thanks CDreamer, never used them, heard mixed reports?
They take you through a very systematic screening questionnaire which irritates some people but every time I’ve used it if there was any need for immediate attention (twice) they were straight on it. Otherwise they can refer to local on call doctors for immediate Consultation, if they think it appropriate.
That’s a misery for you Don. There are Valsalva manoeuvres which may stop the tach if your heart is otherwise sound.
The one I always try is to sit or recline comfortably, breathe in and hold my nose. Try hard to breathe out against the blocked airway whilst bearing down hard as if you are on the toilet. Hold for a few seconds and release quickly - some docs recommend having someone raise your legs slightly at the same time. It can make you slightly dizzy for a few moments but it works most of the time for me.
There are other things such as drinking cold water and dunking your face in cold water. If you google Valsalva manoeuvre there are videos and explanations. Best wishes.
I had this problem, early in lockdown, bisoprolol, sotalol and propranolol didn’t have any effect.( pulse 125) GP told me to go to A and E, they took bloods and monitored me, I declined to remain in overnight. Next day A and E doctor phoned and said I had an overactive thyroid! My TS H levels were unmeasurable, I was prescribed carbimazole 5mg/day and 160 mg of propranolol which helped to bring the pulse down to below 100 bpm. The thyroid levels have recovered though I still have to take carbimazole, but not propranolol unless the atrial tachycardia kicks in again! Due to go to Barts on Monday for the ablation that was cancelled in March.
Hope your pulse is now under control, it’s so wearing when it’s not.
