Post ablation report.... setback

16 days after my ablation and with my hopes at a real high, last night at 8.30 a setback, I went into afib and I’m still there 12 hours later.

I have read the print off the fact sheet and especially the note that you can only know if it has worked 2,3 or more months after, but as I always had such long episodes (4-10 days) Pre ablation I’m worried this bout will Undo the good work of the doctors .

I am trying so hard not to get depressed ... but it is not easy .

I am going to call the nurse this morning go see what i( if anything) I need to do

Does this sound familiar to fellow ablatees? If so, positive news case studies would be a great help To me

Sensible idea to contact your nurse as if you don’t revert back to NSR you may need some help to do so. My EP always said the sooner it can be converted, the more chance you have of maintaining NSR.

Agree with CDreamer, although it’s early days and AF episodes are not unusual until the scar tissue begins to heal which can take several months, it might be worth asking your nurse about using a PiP (pill in the pocket) such as Flecainide as this may help to revert you back to NSR more quickly. If you have not been prescribed Flecainide before, it needs to be done under supervision but it’s worth asking the question......good luck.

A few weeks after my third ablation I went back into AF like you and then had a cardioversion which put me back into sinus rhythm. Don't give up, good idea to call the department where you had your ablation. X

Yes it happened to me around 5 days after my ablation, did not last long, around 4 hours but it took a good 3 months after my ablation before I recovered enough to appreciate that I was on my way to recovery (many a minor blip on the way). My gut feeling is the sooner you can get out of it (much easier said than done) the better the chance of a good recovery. Sorry to state the obvious but sometimes it can help. Seek medical help but don't rely on it as we all have different recoveries but they are better at identifying what you can and cannot do. In the meantime try to relax (stay in bed) and keep hydrated. The chances are that your heart has not healed enough and any slight blip may have started the AF.

spoke with the cardiologist last night he told me not to worry, and that he did not want to cardioinvert.

I am on more Bisoprolol now (3.75 mg/day) and tachycardia is moving down is at 110 bpm as I sit here I will keep you informed
