Interesting one.

A friend of mine is also a keen pilot and I used to fly with him occasionally but stopped when my AF episodes became frequent. In a pressurised cabin of a commercial flight I felt quite OK but in a small plane, altitude of even a few thousand feet seemed to affect me and I assumed that it was oxygen depletion at altitude as at that time I was struggling to keep my O2 sats higher than 92-95.

I would ask about what altitude they were going to fly at and do they carry oxygen for emergency use.

A quick sight seeing hop for an hour or so at a few thousand feet was fine but I declined flying long distance with him thereafter which was a great shame as I really enjoyed the trips and he now has a 5 seater so have missed out on quite a few.

Go for it, it’s a totally fascinating experience and I loved it. It was the long flights to southern Spain that I ducked.

Are you concerned about AF, Coronavirus or both? In terms of Coronavirus, I guess it’s not much different than travelling in a car. At the moment, I would still avoid close proximity with anyone other than my wife but the powers that be are suggesting that public transport is safe providing face masks are worn. Regarding AF, it shouldn’t be a problem, again, a bit like travelling in a car but a few thousand feet off the ground!

My personal view is whilst it would be a wonderful thing to do, it would be safer to do it later........

Oh Vonnie, I'd just do it. I had a friend who had a plane and had no problems when he took me up in it. What did annoy me though was once after a flight, he started talking to someone who had a bigger plane and without asking me said we'd fly with him right there and then. I think it's good to know that a plane is well maintained and if you know that, then all should be well. Don't miss this opportunity and make sure you take your AF medication with you. An hours flight should be fine.

Sounds lovely vonnieruth. You’d be with a chum and she could always take you down it’s not like your with a stranger.
