Kardia compatibility

My consultant has just discharged me back to GP care having said my tests were normal but also admitting that I have a degree of atrial arrhythmia. He said it wasn't sustained enough to be termed afib.I told him I'd had a couple of periods of arrhythmia lasting 20 minutes and around 10 minutes (normally only a few beats) and he suggested getting a kardia to keep an eye.Thing is I have a Samsung A50 phone which I don't think is compatible.I was thinking of getting a tablet anyway to help with work.I saw an offer on a Samsung S6 lite.Does anyone know if that is compatible?Checked Kardia's site already.I don't want to change my phone though.Thanks.

I gave a Samsung S6 phone which is perfectly compatible if that's any help.

Ah right, wonder if it applies to the tablets.Thanks.How easy is it to use and has it been useful?

It is so easy to use . I have had mine for a few years now and I have found it extremely useful and very reassuring.

Certainly at the beginning it was my new toy (!) and it was used quite a bit .....However the novelty does wear off and used now when i have bad episodes. I've printed off readings and shown to GP and A & E in the past. I'm always surprised at the number of paramedics and doctors who have never seen this device and are quite impressed.

I would not like to be without mine.

P.S. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab E tablet which is compatible also

Ah right, that's good to hear. What if you have a slightly off ECG.I have left ventricular hypertrophy ie a mildly thickened heart due to high blood pressure which was diagnosed last year.It gives me a slight st depression which can be due to ischemic heart disease but I was checked and that's normal.Point is does it have a problem with things like that?

I wouldn't have thought that this would be a problem. The Kardia is primarily detecting AF. Maybe someone else on this forum has same problem and can reassure you.

Yes, I hope so.Thing is I don't want to shell out a lot of money for nothing but I would like the reassurance that being able to check would give. Thanks for the help.

I'm the same . Your ECG will look different but you will still be able to see AF and the kardia will function correctly.

I think the longest ECG it will do is 5 minutes fyi .

There is the new 6 lead kardia that will show flutter etc too.

I don't think any of my devices is listed as being compatible but they have all worked with the kardia

It may be worth buying one and trying it with your current phone before spending even more money on a new one.

I wondered about doing that Mikee as my phone is less than a year old and definitely pretty good in other respects.Have you found having a kardia useful and do you have the 6 lead or the two lead version?

I contacted alivecor by email recently to ask if my tablet was compatible. They were extremely helpful.

When I did that a few years ago they said it wouldn't work with my android tablet but it did!

It works with more phones and tablets than those listed on the website - impossible to test every device.

Great thanks Baba, I've emailed them so I'll see what they come back with.😃

My Kardia device has stopped working. I’ve had it attached to the back of a phone since Jan 2017.

Has anyone got any good words on the 6L as a replacement?

Are you sure it’s not the battery. I have mine since 2013 and still works.

Wow, that's impressive for gadgets these days!

I have changed the battery, but no joy. A corner of the device has a crack in it and a bit of the plastic has come off so i do think its had it. I haven't used it for about a year but remember that i could actually hear a buzzing noise when i was putting my fingers on it

Oh well. worth trying. Mine has about 4 cracks in it and the rubber that attached it to the phone has fallen off. It still works when put beside the phone. I got mine free when they were trying them out. Good luck with the new one

I’ve just taken another look at it. I took the battery out and spotted that the battery wasn’t “tucked” under 2 metal tags.

I put the battery back in as it should be and got a perfect reading. Phew!!

That saved me a few £££

For me buying the Kardia EKG and using it was the only way I proved to my Cardiologist that I was having frequent episodes of AF. Definitely worth it to me. From there I went to regular daily medication and eventually ablation. It is kept in a drawer in the original box and it's there if I need it. Bought in 2013 I have changed the batteries once. Buy one - in the big picture your health is most important . Go well.

My EP cardio doctor does not even look at my kardia readings..but is helpful to my peace of mind..After 2 conversation I am now going to have a holter monitor to see if I have Brady cardia but my Kardia was first to record it, made me see the doctor because of the slow heartbeats recording. So in my case it was very helpful for cardio recording .. It was a good buy .
