Canceled ablation due to “feeling” congested

I sneezed a few times over the weekend and “thought” I felt my head becoming congested, and of course had lots of anxiety about being at more risk if I succumbed to a cold/flu following the procedure, let alone the covid19. So I called the cardiologist and we decided best to side with caution and wait til I felt 100%.

I’ve had Tach (200+) and ER electro cardioversions X 2, so was eager to have it done. I started back on Flec after the 2nd cardioversion and feeling fairly stable. Less of a tendency towards tachycardia - resting HR down to 50.

I don’t have any increase in cold symptoms, so I’m guessing my mind created the illusory congestion. The fear was real but the cold may not have been. I have no regret.

I’m interested in how others have worked with tachycardia episodes. I’ll keep reading.

Be well, everyone.

What a shame and what a good question

Are you taking a betablocker along with your flecainide? Most times they go hand in hand. The flec should regulate your rhythm and a betablocker drug will calm and slow the rate. ( most betablocker drugs end in. “ lol”. Other than that, managing stress and avoiding stimulants such as caffeine, getting enough rest, moderate exercise, hydration and healthy diet are the only things I know of to help your heart behave.

Also try not to get anxious about Covid 19 too - I know its hard.

Amen to that!

Hi Hoski - thanks for your thoughts. Feeling pretty stable on the flecainide. No beta blocker at this time & my resting HR is 50, so unlikely I’d be able to add that. I’m doing all the right stuff & other than this beating issue I’m very fit for 71.

And I thankfully, at my grandson’s encouragement, went to the Humane society a month ago and brought home a kitten. She is the best stress management tool I’ve experienced outside of yoga.

Cheers, Susan Marie

Aww so glad you have a kitten to help you thru this not so fun time. I have an 8 wk old pup asleep on my feet at the moment. He keeps my mind occupied, lol.

Sounds like you and I were in the same boat! My SVT ablation was scheduled for March 23 (coincidentally my wedding anniversary 😂). Did some of the prep tests 2 weeks ahead. But felt sneezy and had just returned from Japan, so cancelled the ablation. Disappointed. But even though COVID19 hadn’t officially hit my area, I knew it was on it’s way (not far from NYC) so didn’t want to take any chances. That was my 2nd cancellation, first due to another more urgent, but unrelated, surgery. 3rd time’s the charm? Good luck to you!!
