NHS app

Just wondering if folk are aware of this app. It's a bit of a faff getting logged in. Need photos of passport or front of driving licence. Then follow screen instructions to have facial recognition checked.

You then have access to your GP records (not details of consults) and can order meds (havent tried this as use GPs on line system and just got app) Much easier to scroll back through test results and Appts than on surgery site

Yes been on it a while. Very helpful blood test results the next day and info on your medication and lots more.

Thanks - I wasn’t aware if it - my surgery uses SystemsOnline so not sure if this will be compatible? I may give it a go.

I’m sure this will be the future I know - our hospital us due to go all digital sometime soon - but the local GPs have a different system .....Grrrr!

Yes we have Systemonline too which I will still use for booking appts and prescriptions I think, for now at least. But looking at padt events is much easier with this app .

I've got it, it is a lot of jumping through hoops to register. Can't do much with it and my GP yet though.

I wonder if it will also work with NHS Scotland? Getting an appointment at our surgery is a nightmarè unless it is an emergency.

I use Patient Access. I can order prescriptions and arrange appointments but this is limited. When I first signed up I could get access to records and blood tests but this has now changed and no longer available. Not sure why but think it’s surgery policy rather than the app. One can still access blood test results but each time has to be requested separately, form filled out and I’d provided. Then test results are available for 10 days. Is a bit pointless to be honest.

Oh that's a shame. Our surgery uses systemonlineso we've had access to all the personal info for several years but the NHS app is more user friendly I find. As I said only just got it.

My surgery uses Patient Access and it has facilities for several items like seeing your own records but the Surgery does not use them and the only thing it allows is reordering prescriptions.

You should insist..It is your right to be able to access your medical records.

My surgery uses Patient Access but I always found it a faff logging in. I have been using the NHS app for a while and I think they are linked as I used the same sign up details as for patient access. I find it much simpler and use it all the time to book appointments and order repeat prescriptions.

Well I gave up in frustration yesterday after 3 attempts to install but I will try again ...thanks for sharing Bagrat!

I have just become a ‘Digital Champion’ for my GP practice PPG (Patient Participation Group) with a view to getting patients to use the app & assisting those having problems logging in.

It’s very good for ordering repeat meds & the surgery put a limited amount of appointments on there each day. Currently at my surgery, you have to put in a request to get full access to your records, which I am in the process of doing. I can only see allergies, medications, and history of previous appointments at the moment.

I used to use Patient Access but there seems to be a preference for switching to NHS app - probably cost based, but also more info available on NHS app

The app has lots of info on conditions via an A-Z listing and also info on when to contact GP, Pharmacist, 111, 999 etc.

As Bagrat says, it is a bit clunky to get into - make sure you’ve thought of

1. A password of at least 8 characters including a capital letter, a lower case letter and a number

2. Know your NHS number

3. Have a Driver’s Licence or Passport to hand

4. Have an idea of how to record a short selfie video of yourself - they send you a short number sequence and ask you to record a short video of yourself repeating the sequence ( maybe change out of your Jim jams & brush your hair for this one?😂).

5. Make sure you have time to go through the process in one go or it will time you out & you will have to start again!

6. You are prompted & assisted throughout the process & at some point have to enter a code they send to your mobile phone

7. Within 2 hours you get a message to say you’ve successfully logged in

8. Store your password somewhere safe as you need to enter your email & password each time you use the app.

Have fun!

There seem to be several competing systems like this. There is another called Patients know best that we signed up for.
