An awful statistic on my local news

I woke up bright and early, made porridge and nuts for breakfast and put the local news on . A doctor appeared explaining how they were going to try and evaluate a new method of cooling heart attack patients in order to try and protect the brain. So far so good.

Then he commented "80 % of cardiac arrest patients die either before or on arrival at the hospital. Another 10% die while they are in hospital.".

A very sobering thought.

I was IN hospital at the time. Best chance really unless you happent to collapse next to a machine. Arrhythmia Alliance working to have more machines in public spaces.

Do you need an electrical supply for these devices?

No battery operated but may need supply for the box and phone line too I think .

Certainly a really sobering thought but the REAL trick is to get people to overcome their fears and get a physical once every couple of years.

Yes indeed, grim reading. I was one of the lucky 10%: I had a cardiac arrest at home seven years ago and, thanks to my husband promptly telephoning for an ambulance and doing CPR while he waited and also, thanks to the excellent medical attention and care I received, I am now probably healthier than before. I didn’t have an unhealthy lifestyle then but it healthier now. I suppose the lesson is to adopt a healthy lifestyle and also to know how to do CPR and to encourage others to learn as well. Good wishes pjr

The big news here in Australia over the weekend was one of the Wiggles (48yo) collapsing and going into cardiac arrest at a concert for bushfire relief. They gave him CPR and a nurse in the audience used the venue’s defibrillator on him. He is now in hospital and lucky to be alive.

Our friends’ neighbour is the retired head of the ambulance service and has a defibrillator on the wall of his garage so anyone in the neighborhood can have access. I said to my husband if either of us are going to have a cardiac arrest we should do it when we’re visiting our friends 😃
