My life’s been on hold since diagnosed with paradoxical AF and it’s my 1st ablation at Harefield tomorrow and I’m first on the list, so I’ve just been reading the comments. It says in the Pre op notes that you’ll need a week off of work, but by the comments it seems 2 is better?
Obviously I hope to be off of Amiodarone as soon as possible so that I don’t have to worry about sun when I go away in March to Orlando for my husbands 60th.. Fingers crossed! It’s a big year as my daughters also getting married and my son moving house!

Best wishes for speedy recovery - but listen to and trust what your body says, not your mind or any ‘shoulds’ advise, everyone recovers at their own pace.
All the best. Be careful in the sun, even if you do come off the Amiodarone before your trip as the drug stays in your system for a few months. I was on it last summer (and I live in Australia). I stayed inside as much as possible and always wore sunscreen and long sleeves when I was outside but still had rashes from the photosensitivity. Enjoy your trip! We are off to Santorini mid year for my husband’s 60th.
Although you say that it is your first ablation, it may well be the only ablation you need . I do think it's better to be on the safe side and allow plenty of time for recovery, so you are in great shape for your Orlando trip. Remember to take it very easy, no premature attempts at strenuous exercise and listen to your body. Your heart will have had a shock, so expect it to grumble at you ( technical term) for a while. You might even feel a little worse before you get better, it's perfectly normal. Fingers crossed for a successful outcome!
I had my first, (and only so far...), ablation nearly 4 years ago at 58 and still teaching at the time.
I would highly recommend that you really take it very very easy and ask for as long as you need off from your EP and then GP as the procedure can take it out of one for sure!
I ended up having 6 weeks off and don't regret it for one moment as I honestly feel that the medics totally under estimate the effect an ablation can have on ones body and brain! ( if having a cryoablation which is freezing not heating) visual migraines can effect you for a little while afterwards, but not always. They do pass quite quickly and some people don't have any at all. I felt tired every afternoon and opted for siestas which really helped but if back at work too soon that would be difficult I imagine....??
If your trip is in March , that's great , but I strongly advise to really do as little as possible before you head off so you can enjoy your special trip with your husband. An exciting year ahead for you AF free hopefully too!
Go easy and really really listen to your body as already recommended!
Well by the time you read this you will have been done.
Rest rest rest for two weeks! Then after than listen to your body...if it says take it slow take it slow, you may look well in the outside but the heart takes a battering and needs time.
