Dear all, good to be back after a few months break. I have always been struck by the depth of knowledge within the group, and the heartfelt words of advice so freely given. Whilst in most cases we don't have the depth of knowledge of our Medical Practitioners, I strongly believe we do know our bodies, we know instinctively or by experience what works, what helps and what may exacerbate our conditions.

With this in mind I'd like to start- call it a blog - of our collective words of wisdom/advice. What works for you in terms of Meds, procedures, lifestyle. What you believe may contribute to an episode, how to avoid it. So we can all look read and of course make up our own minds.

With this in mind I'll offer one suggestion. Being the male of the species and of a certain age, trips to the bathroom, especially at night are a norm.

One thing I believe helps me- learnt from bitter experience. If you do wake up, especially from a deep sleep, with a pressing need to go to the bathroom. Do not jump out of bed. First try and relax. Start by gently waggling your toes, flex your legs/arms, anything to slowly wake up your system. Sit on the edge of the bed, take a few slow deep breaths, before again slowly standing up and moving.

On return, lie flat, relax by repeating a few slow deep breaths. If you can remember in and out through your nose. If by any chance you feel anxious about anything. Starting at your toes, think into each part of your body and relax each part in turn. Could be by physically moving and then relaxing or just visualisation. Most people will not reach their eyes. If you do don't worry just start over again.

Look forward to your top tips and thoughts.

Hi Tryfan, we're not ignoring your request. It's just that this subject is brought up quite often and I guess we that have been on this forum for many years are a little weary of discussing it time and time again. However, new people are joining this site all the time, so really this topic does need to be discussed time and time again.

Will search to see if I can find an old post that's a little more apt.

Meanwhile, here is a link to a post, I made a few years ago, requesting slightly similar info as you have asked for:
