Hi everyone - my hip osteoarthritis kicks in occasionally & is terribly painful. Naproxen used to do the trick but as I am now on Apixaban that is off limits. Can anyone suggest an alternative please (paracetamol only helps a little) ?

Naproxen now a no no

It might be best to consult your GP or your regular pharmacy, however, I am on Warfarin and for my osteoarthritis in right shoulder I use CoCodomol 30/500. Only available on prescription. It is also known as Zapain 30/500. I used this extensively before my knee replacement, and after knee surgery too.

Thanks
Tramadol might be an option but they don't tend to give that long term.
Sadly whilst the apixaban or any anticoagulant is being taken you're very limited by None-steroidal antiinflammatories like Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Diclofenac.
As carneuny says, there are options. Best to discuss
That's a thought - many thanks
I have AF so I have to take tramadol and paracetamol. I had both hips replaced which is amazing as there is absolutely no pain there now (might be worth considering). Unfortunately osteoarthritis is in my spine so I still have to take the drugs. The pain is always there but is manageable now.
I can use a pain patch with ibuprofen even with Apixiban
It is upsetting I used to take Naproxen for back pain and a jumping nerve I get! That’s terrible but they really don’t like it anymore not certain why! As I was given it to stop taking Diclophenic originally so why stop it! Hope you get sorted. I’m on strong Cocodamol now 30/500.
Curcumin (active extract of turmeric) helps me some.
(Do check for possible adverse interactions, even though it's an extract if a common spice - anything that can have a medical effect can have a medical side effect.)
I miss NSAIDs, though!
