I am just under 3 months post ablation for svt. March 17 I was diagnosed with costochondritis after a bout with pleurisy via viral infection. I was put on naproxen.
My question is, can naproxen cause palpitations? And it also feels like my heart is working harder. For example when I take my daily walk my bpm is usually around 125. But yesterday it went up to 145. And doing minimal things like brushing my teeth has my heart rate at 125 instead of 108 and I'm a little out of breath.
Has anyone had the same experience with naproxen?
I'm also on 40mg pepcid 2x a day, 40mg omeprazole once a day, and a One A Day Womens vitamin.

Hi - there are others more knowledgeable than me But - my understanding is that if you have AF you should not take NSAID’s - and Naproxen is an anti inflammatory drug. I don’t think you should be taking this although I do sympathise as my son used to get flare-ups of costochondritis and I know it is painful. Maybe check with your pharmacy as they usually have good information on drug interactions. Liz
Whoever prescribed an anti inflamatory (NSAID) like naproxen needs to go back to school and learn that NSAIDs must never be prescribed for people with AF. They all promote arrhythmias in one way or another. In soem circumstances topical gels can be used sparingly as so little gets into the blood stream.
Whe I was hospitalised last year after a bout of fast AF which mimicked a heart attack, I was on a cardiac ward and was put on naproxen. GP was horrified when she found out and told me to stop it immediately.
Thanks everyone for your advice! I'm thinking my dr maybe doesnt see the same side effects because I had svt and not af? Idk but I did stop the naproxen and after one day I feel a little better. I'll pick up some anti inflammatory cream I stead and stick to tylenol.
