Apixaban and indigestion

After an ecg about 3 months I was diagnosed with AF and put on anti coagulants, first rivaroxaban and for past month apixaban. This is pretty free from side effects apart from indigestion a couple of hours after a meal. today I had some cranberry cheese and two hours later I had very severe burping, Does anyone know what indigestion remedies are safe with apixaban?

Best to check with the pharmacist but I would think any “over the counter” remedies would OK.......

There are a ton of remedies but, hey, why don't you lay off some of the known foods that cause indigestion and severe burping for a couple of months? Everybody is different but you should read the known food groups like coffee, chocolate, high fat cheeses, etc. Apple has malic acid which immediately stops indigestion - the more sour the better like Granny Smith but Fuji and Honey Crisp work two. Half an apple. Also candied ginger works - just wipe off by hand or water the excess sugar.

Hi there,

Have you considered that the underlying cause of this may be a dysfunctional vagal or vagus nerve. This is a nerve of the parasympathetic nervous system which acts as information super highway between the brain and the gastrointestinal tract but it specifically affects the heart and digestive system as well as other body organs.

Quite early in my AF journey I found food triggered my AF ... long story short, with the aid of a professional nutritionist, I addressed the dysfunctional vagus nerve by eating better, eliminating many of the foods that antagonised my gut and thereby calmed my heart.

Not cured, still on medication after nearly 10 years and my tally so far is 1 AF event since April 2015 ( which arose when I was sleeping on my left side) and in the middle of 2019 I was doing a lot of long distance travel by car and ate some foods ( in motorway services) which triggered very high heart rates for half a day or so, but, didn't actually tip me into AF.

The old story, when I abandoned these foods I was fine. similarly just recently with packaged chinese foods from a well known supermarket ... off I went into very high heart rate and various bowel issues too.

I tend to support Dawsonmackay's comments.
