Been trying to look this up using the search function but i can’t really seem to find anything so was just wondering if anybody who has ectopics finds they coincide with indigestion? The reason i ask is i just ate a small slice of cake and some pringles and after lying back on the couch i experienced 3 or 4 ectopics in quick succession. Ectopics aren’t new i’ve read that pretty well everyone gets them and i’m one of the lucky ones who get to feel them, but never had them in this situation before.
Would be interested to hear from anyone who has felt similar.

I guess as your heart is near your stomach it might be better to sit up and eat slowly. Good to note to see if there is a pattern. I get ectopics any time so just stay aware. Good luck
I’ve had the ectopics for a few years now albeit i don’t seem to get a lot, touch wood! On a bad day maybe have 10-20 some days don’t feel any. Thanks for the reply i’ll certainly be sitting up for longer after eating
I would say the answer is yes - digestive ills with me go hand in hand with heart wobbles. I suspect my ectopic episodes start because I have eaten something or too much of something - usually sugar-based. Certainly, when I had AF episodes the links were very obvious.
The suspects might be sugar in the cake and/or Pringle ingredients.
That is so sad Jean. I don't eat cake much but never to have it would make me feel deprived! I have had the occasional afib episode after a very sweet dessert though!
I think there is a connection. Following my ablation, even after 12 + months was still getting regular mild bouts ectopics.
I had an endoscopy that revealed bad acid reflux. Since taking a daily PPI (Lansoprazole 15mg) the ectopics have all but disappeared.
Intrigued by this, I paused my PPI meds and after 2-3 days the ectopics returned. I think my esophagus took a bit of beating during my ablation and I also had temporary loss of phrenic nerve tracing (fully recovered) but I think I’m super sensitive to acid in my gullet.
All that mind, I’m sure indigestion plays a part in Afib for some.
The vagus nerve and stomach are in very close proximity to each other. It is absolutely possible to have indigestion and irritate the vagus nerve which can cause ectopics. Plug it into a search engine.
Certain foods can definitely bring on ectopic beats. They can show up at any time for any number of reasons but like you said, you are one of the lucky ones who can feel them. I am one of those lucky ones too and I find as time goes on, I got used to them more and more and find they do not bother me anywhere near as much when I first started to feel them.
Yep i’m much the same. As time goes on they get easier to deal with/ignore, which thankfully seems to mean you don’t have as many or certainly don’t notice them.
I would suggest it was the loading of the carbohydrates which gave you indigestion which then would irritate the heart causing the ectopics. Certainly lying down eating is an absolute no/no!
I had to eliminate all carbs and junk food to avoid acid reflux. Might be an idea to note the times this happens and what you had eaten?
I think you are pretty spot on there carbs are the enemy and all that! Think i will start a food diary would be interesting to pin point what flares them up. Thanks for the reply guys, appreciate it.
I have ectopics after breakfast - if I don't allow time for digestion and start doing things too early they arrive. I also have a full - need ing to burp feeling which precedes them. Interesting that carbs may be part of the problem?
Yes thats the feeling i got as well. A fullness indigestion feeling, a little gassy afterwards. These ectopics really are a joy!
Definitely relate to this.Certain foods will react and create gas enough to push against the vagus nerve and voila, the heart responds. The heart and stomach share almost the same branches of the vagus.
When you combine sugary things with yeasty things....you create fermentation.
Quick fix make half a cup of hot water with one teaspoon of bicarb of soda....gas goes...along with it ectopics too in most cases...
Long term fix start to use magnesium supplements, especially taurate...this helps the heart maintain a healthy rhythm....and relax the body ...turns those twangs into pings!
Look into vagus nerve exercises too...research youtube. Hope these suggestions help..
My heart feels very “wobbly” sometimes & it seems to coincide with indigestion & trapped wind. When the wind comes up the feelings go. So yes think it is connected. I have to be careful not to eat too much & too quick.
I rarely get indigestion, but when I do it's usually from laying down too soon after eating. Ectopics do indeed coincide with indigestion if only because of the close proximity between the organs involved.
As another poster has alluded to, please look at Sanjay Gupta's explanation of the connection between heart and stomach on YouTube. Search York Cardiologist then browse his videos, you'll find this subject.
