Hello all, I'm on apixaban and I was wondering has anybody had a nosebleed and what did they do? Thanks
Apixaban : Hello all, I'm on apixaban... - Atrial Fibrillati...
Apixaban
I've been on apixaban since 2017 and not had any nosebleeds and not noticed that I bleed any more or any longer from any cuts - if I do it's minimal and believe me it's not through lack of trying with DIY and gardening. If you have a nosebleed that won't stop it is best to seek medical advice - either by going to your surgery or A+E if you can or if out of hours calling paramedics (though goodness knows how long they could take to get to you). Hope someone who has experience will get in touch soon.
My late husband used to get nosebleeds all the time but he was on Warfarin. I take Apixaban and have never had any bleeding problems and Im quite accident prone !!
Hi TiilyBoss,Unfortunately I do suffer from nose bleeds . I take rivaroxaban one of the newer anticoagulants. I have weakened vessels in my nose from previous damage, rugby etc. I can get bleeding that can last hours and I'm used to packing my nose etc however on one occasion the bleeding wouldn't stop so I went to my local hospital but after waiting the bleeding did stop.
I wouldn't stop taking rivaroxaban as the benefits of not having a stroke is more important to me
Hello all, I'm on apixaban and I was wondering has anybody had a nosebleed and what did they do? Thank
Yes and do same as you would normally do. May take a little more time to control. No real issue
Nosebleeds can be quite serious, a family member on apixiban has had several serious ones requiring hospital treatment to stop them and then cateurisation. I think if if goes on for more than 30 mins, you need to get help.
I’ve had nosebleeds all my life and it was the main reason why I waited so long to commence taking my anticoagulant; I was worried I’d bleed to death!! However good sense won out and I still get nosebleeds and I’d say that I maybe bleed for 10-15% longer. They stop perfectly fine.
However I chose APIXABAN because it’s a two a day drug, and I usually get nosebleeds when I wake up and so by that time my dose is wearing off ( that’s probably my faulty logic at play) and so take my two doses at 9am and 9pm, so I figured that if I get a really bad morning nosebleed I can simply defer or miss my 9am pill, but actually it’s never happened, they always stop albeit with the added few minutes. Genuinely not a problem. I hope this reassures you.
I have been on apixaban for 3 years and notice barely any difference - shaving nicks and scratches bleed about 10% more. I have never had a nosebleed but I guess the usual advice applies and seek medical advice if it really won't stop after a lengthy bleed.Remember a little blood looks like a helluva lot.
Very rarely get them but the worst one I've ever had in my life after being on Apixaban started with me vomiting up blood that I'd swallowed as I was lying down at the time and didn't realise what was going on. Called paramedics but it'd stopped by the time they arrived as I was pressing my nose exceedingly hard slightly leaning forward and it did the trick. Hate Apixaban as I have OA but can't take any anti-inflammatories but I suppose having a stroke is also hateful!
nampons work great for my nosebleeds. I get them from Amazon. Have been on eliquis for several years. Nosebleeds started after about a year. Only one was serious and required packing from ER to stop. Then severity tapered off with monthly bleeds, diminishing, then stopping completely. None for over 6 months now. The nampons and normal actions for nosebs worked for me. Good luck.
I am on Apixiban and had sudden nosebleeds for about a month.went to Gp and he tried cautrizing it didnt work. What did work was a barrier of vaseline inthe offending nostril . Worked a treat!
Afrin (oxymetazoline) nasal spray is a vasoconstrictor. Wetting a cotton plug or tampon with it and inserting into the affected nasal passage will usually stop the bleed in a short time. Failing that, a very good product is called “Nampon” (Amazon)-it is an absorbent plug containing a clotting agent, and has never failed.
