In the past antihistamines have brought on my AF quite badly, Benadryl from memory. However, clarityn is one that I seem to be able to tolerate. I guess everyone is different, maybe it's the type of antihistamine.
I no longer take Flecainide as I have persistent AF, and I had unacceptable side effects when I took Bisoprolol. One wás an exacerbation of my asthma which landed me in hospital for two nights. The worst, and rarest was itching. I was weaned off Bisoprolol, not allowed to take any other beta blocker. Though it is now 21 month's since I stopped talking Bisoprolol,it somehow changed the pH of my skin and the itches continue.
I was prescribed ceterizine tablets, a common antihistamine, they normally work and my GP says I can increase the dose of two a day. I normally have 3 or 4 a day.
Different tablets work with different people. I now buy ceterizine over the counter where it is much cheaper than the cost to the NHS of prescribed ceterizine.
The side effect that I had from Bisoprolol is deemed to be very rare, that is less than ten people in every 10,000 people who take Bisoprolol get the itching.
I have found that if i eat acidic foods like tomatoes and oranges the itching increases, so I avoid them.
I should add that generic ceterizine is much cheaper than branded antihistamines like clarytin and piritin. The Range sells ceterizine for £1 for 28 tablets, Lidl and Aldi, 99p for 14 tablets
