A recent case report warns of the dangers of cinnamon interacting with oral anticoagulants (European Journal of Case Reports in Internal Medicine, online July 19, 2019). An 80-year-old man who had been taking dabigatran (Pradaxa) for atrial fibrillation started taking a solution of cinnamon and ginger. Three days later he was vomiting blood and his stool was black with blood. The doctors were unable to control his intestinal bleeding and he died. There may be other factors that contributed to this tragedy. However, to be prudent, people taking anticoagulant medicines should not use cinnamon as medicine.

Yes but he had been drinking something like half a pint of concentrated solution every day apparently. He had been boiling up the spices to create it. We had this discussion several weeks ago when it hit the news. I don't think many people need to worry too much.
I've just started taking a little Ceylon cinnamon in my muesli and I can't swear it's that but since starting it I'm feeling more alive and wake mornings feeling refreshed (not had that for years). I'm on Warfarin and having my INR checked this afternoon, so will report back here if it's had any effect.
i also use ceylon cinnamon (regular cinnamon is actually Cassia and not good for you in large regular doses) on my oatmeal daily. I also use fresh ginger in my morning juicing
I alternate between ginger and cinnamon in my home made buckwheat based muesli. I get spates of using fresh ginger, especially in a soup I make and keep some frozen in my freezer. With all the healthy foods I eat I just can't understand why I'm not blooming with health. I eat absolutely nothing containing artificial additives. Perhaps the problem is the pills I'm forced to take, Flecainide, Metoprolol, Levothyroxine and Warfarin. I won't give up trying to feel better though.
I know how you feel. I am 81 good weight/walk daily/vegan/other than AF no health problems (am on levothyroxine for low thyroid which is well monitored as that was the cause of of my original AF 11yrs ago due to stupid Dr overdosing me) now back on metoprolol due to recent AF episodes last month (had weaned off it daily in January and was just using it PIP) but after over a year no AF I had several episodes last month altho was able to convert at home each time. I am also on Eliquis (I take half prescribed dose and take full dose if in AF)
I have noticed recent articles on drinking tea laced with ginger and cinnamon for a feeling of well being and energy. I don't see how that could hurt any one, but anything in excess can be harmful. I'm on Eliquis so I pay close attention to these things Thank you for posting. Pam
Cinnamon is great for the heart and AF and also a good supplemt for diabates. I take a number of supplements that increase the effectiveness of anticoagulants. I reduce my intake of Apixaban by 25% to compensate for this issue.
