Aspirin is commonly prescribed post stroke and TIA is a very small transient stroke but four weeks grace sounds like horse, stable door, bolt to me. Whilst anticoagulation in AF can't guarantee that you won't have such events is is rare especially if you have been correctly taking your anticoagulation. I'm guessing this is your stroke consultant not your AF one?

I know many people on aspirin as well as warfarin as this is common for people with mechanical heart valves or stents but not known anybody on aspirin and DOACs.

Hi I was taking apixaban for 8months then I went in for ablation but it was abandoned as they found clot. They took me straight off and put me back on

Warfarin and aspirin and I am still taking the aspirin. I had my ablation a month ago. I hope this helps

I had an ablation stopped because of a clot and was put back on warfarin but as soon as the clot dissipated and the ablation was done, I was back on a DOAC.

I think it's because aspirin is anti platelet clotting so slightly different. I was in hospital recently and am on Apixaban and they added in clopidogrel and aspirin for a short time until I had an angiogram. If they have these three long term they reduce the Apixaban dose ( Clopidogrel also works on platelet formation ( which is needed for clotting).

I agree with Bob - I can see the sense of taking aspirin immediately post TIA - indeed I took it for a few days immediately following my TIA - but fail to understand taking it for ever and being given 4 weeks grace to decide?? - along with anticoagulants - ?? unless there is another underlying reason unrelated to the AF?

I would be asking more in depth questions of both your AF & stroke consultant.

I was given aspirin along with my usual Edodoban for a while, post heart surgery. A while later I queried with my Dr whether i should stop taking the aspirin as I wasn't told when/if to discontinue it. It is contraindicated with Edoxaban, and presumably other DOACs. Had I not queried it I'd still be on it now and my Dr asked why I'd been given it....So check you don't fall through the cracks, especially if dealing with different Drs/Consultants...

I was on both for a year or so but when I complained about bruising and minor bleeds I was taken off aspirin. I have had no problems for the last two years.

I am in the US and was put on aspirin after my AF diagnosis. I am now on both as I prepare for my ablation in about a month. My cardiologist and my electrophysiologist wanted me to be on both. Something about aspirin reducing platelets from sticking together.
