This week I hit the six month anniversary of my last ablation. Life in general is pretty good. When I saw my EP last month he took me off Digoxin and halved my beta blocker. Since I reduced the drugs I’ve had two short episodes of AF and one of Tachycardia. My EP has said to stay on the low dose of Atenolol (25 mg/day) and if I feel I need to I can take a full tablet.
On Friday I caught up with a former colleague for lunch and shared the story of my journey over the past 18 months. The word she used to describe me was “resilient”. We don’t really have a lot of options though do we? I believe in smiling, staying positive and moving forward, dealing with whatever needs dealing with and getting on with life.
The spring weather here is lovely. My daughter and grand puppy George are staying for the weekend so we went for an hour long walk by the water this morning (with a coffee break halfway through). George is now 9 months old. He is like a big teddy bear. We have amazing sunsets over the Indian Ocean so I thought I’d include a recent photo of George at the beach.

Well done Kaz you've done so well and with your job as well. Hope you continue in good health and I can't believe that it's been 6mths since I was there chatting to you over a coffee! Hope you enjoy Santorini and looking forward to your pics! These look so lovely and bring back memories, hopefully our paths may cross again sometime! 😀💕
I’m sure we will catch up again Angie - our trip to Greece next year has now expanded to 5 or 6 countries (also going to Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Italy and maybe Albania). I’m hoping in 2021 we make it back to the UK.
Thank you so much for your update, Kaz, and your beautiful photos. It’s great to hear how well you’re doing And It’s certainly lifted my spirits this morning xx
Always good to read your posts Kaz. Resilient is a good word but sadly too many people become victims. Keep up the good work. George is gorgeous by the way.
Mikey'e girlfriend is flying to Aus at lunchtime to see her uncle so she can tell me about the spring weather as we go slowly into Autumn. Just had a week of lovely weather here but woke up to rain this morning. Feeeling smug as we winter proofed the house last week, painting the fence. lacquering the front door and cleaning out all the guttering of leaves and other detritus.
Winter tyres to go on the cars next month so need to go to the storage unit and get them ready soon. . "They" say we are going to have the worst winter for thirty years.
The last time we put winter tyres on we had the mildest winter ever!
Bob lives not far from us but even that short distance means we experience very different climate. Winter tyres have a different tread which is supposed to be helpful in icy conditions which we get although we very rarely get snow here on the coast but as Devon has many hills, one particularly notorious one which always causes problems when it becomes frosty, it’s probably wise to put on winter tyres when you drive a lot in Devon in the winter - although the temperature here last week was 24-26C - Bob - winter tyres in September - really?
Winter tyres are a legal requirement in some parts of Europe (though not sadly here in Britain) They are made from a different type of rubber which works best below 7degrees Celcius and have fine sipes cut into the more open tread blocks so they work a bit like velcro on ice. They also move a huge amount of water so you charge down the motorway leaving huge rooster tails of spray. I first used them about eight years ago and could not beleive the improvement in traction, steering or braking even on just a wet road. On ice they enabled me to go places other people couldn't. Since we live up a single track lane and until recently Sam was a carer and started work at 6.30 am we have sets for four of our cars. Yes in deep snow chains are the way but with all the idiots on the road we tend not to drive if it's that bad.
Yep, they said that last year as well.... which was mild, same year before , which was frrrreeezin.....trouble is you never know which lies they are spinning !
Awe how nice m glad all’s ticking over well with you.....nice photos what a pretty cuddly dog!....I’m in OZ! Arrived in Cairns last night! We stopped ove two nights in Singapore.....must admit the journey was a lot more tiring than whrn I did it three years back pre Afib, but I think the tablets make me lack that extra spark you’d rely on normally (cardio keeping me in them till after Oz). Just been walkies along Palm Cove beach, battered by wind , so warm......lovely! I love aistralia😀
Welcome to Oz Sue! I love Palm Cove - I had the most amazing Spanner Crab Linguine when I was there a few years back! Enjoy your travels and stay well x
So good you’re doing well! Hope to be like you and get back on track again.
Doing my spiro test (=bicycle test with mask) today to see if I can start my cardiac revalidation. I’m a bit nervous, so hopefully my HR doesn’t do tricks on me 🤨.
Beautiful pictures. You’re blessed to live in such a beautiful part of the world. Good for the moral and to strengthen your inner self.
I think the type of AFib you have would be a consideration in the choice, Paroxysmal or Persistant/Permanent.. Also, how long you have been getting episodes, and many other factors. If it has spread to areas other than the pulmonary veins you may need to consider RF. I was in the same position as you 're choice.
GoodMorning from Houston, Tx geeecch with a view like that my whole heart and all its issues might just be resolved my last tachychardia ablation was June 23rd 2019. Still feeling a bit off, mainly exhausted but hanging in there as well. thanks for the beautiful pictures it made my heart smile.....
