Pretty soon, it will be winter here on America’s East Coast. I am absolutely dreading the cold. Will you please tell me if you have issues with not being able to get warm enough in the winter time? Temperature intolerance has become overwhelming for me since my A-Fib diagnosis and medications. Curious, anyone else have this?
The winter cold has almost become too unbearable, and I find myself absolutely dreading the winter season. I am 65 my next birthday with plenty of padded layers residing inside, but the cold seems to work it’s way through the layers straight to my trembling bones. Winter’s cold is such a dread: everyday feels like I’m freezing even when it’s moderate. In addition to that, the trees are naked; life has escaped from the greenery; and I, well I, am almost miserable inside. I feel like a cold, trembling Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.

I hate the winters up north. And by up north I mean anything above Georgia. Finally moved south from North Carolina as it was getting too cold for me, even though we only saw snow 1 or 2 days a year, that was too much for me. In my youth, NH and Ma were playgrounds but that too got old almost as quick as I did. Theres an old saying, if you dont like the weather up north...wait a minute.
I say if you dont like the weather where you are, find a place where you do, and go there. Anything is possible.
Hi April, I used to feel the cold terribly until is was discovered that my thyroid was under-active. Since taking pills to right that I feel so much warmer in the winter now. It may be an idea to get yours checked.
Thank you so much Jean. I had it checked a year ago when I was first diagnosed with a-Fib. I feel like they may be missing something. I see the doctor on Monday and will ask.
If you can, raise your exercise levels,, padded trousers from the ski shop, scarf over your face, good thick gloves, Zippo hand warmers and plenty of warm drinks. If you have difficulty with this become a Snowbird , get a trailer and head south, if only for the worst of the weather.
Hi, since I started taking beta blockers I am always cold. I need the temp to be 25 degrees or I feel chilly. In winter I just do lots of layers and crank the heating up. Everyone else moans they are too hot. It is not that easy to just move somewhere warmer. Good luck.
I live in the French Alps....snow from November till April...but we do get lists of sunshine too.....I find I’m fine until I let the cold get into me..... if that makes sense.....I do now wear these thermal light no sleve tee shirts under everything......sitting around is the worst thing......
My hubby used to feel the cold terribly and we seriously considered moving overseas to somewhere with a milder climate. He used to wear numerous layers in the winter, always starting with a good thermal one from head to toe, finishing with ski gloves and a quilted/padded jacket.
Silk socks and gloves worn as extras next to the skin helped him to retain his body heat more.
He had a heart transplant in 2012 and has been as 'fit as a fiddle' eversince and now loves the Winter as much as Summer.
I, on the other hand now have AF but since changing beta blockers do not seem to feel the cold as much as I did previously.
With AF you are best avoiding moving anywhere too hot or that might affect you too.
It does sound as though you are thoroughly fed up which is very sad. Can you speak to your GP and explain how you feel?
I'm sure you will be getting lots of good advice via this site over the next couple of days. The warmer weather will return ☺
If you have a walking shop nearby, have a look and see if they have any merino wool leggings and tops. They are not cheap but they have a great benefit in that they do not smell if you start walking, and they wick away any sweat unlike the 'technical' garments, which can get stinky quite quickly. Smellly Hellies?
