A bit off topic but I am fascinated by some of the nicknames we see on this forum.....some, like BobD are really boring but others conjure up all kinds of imaginative thoughts. FlapJack, as Hylda knows, came about when we treated ourselves to a rather extravagant retirement present. “How on earth will I remember the registration number” I said as the dealer presented me with the keys. Easy said my wife.....”FlapJack”!!
As the holiday season draws to an end here in the UK, I wonder if if anyone else would like to share the thinking in deciding their nickname.....Apologies to BobD, at least HE is not boring....😉

As our new van is so much smaller, she is known as Midge! Short for Midget! Do wonder should I go out and come in again now Hylda is no more!🤣

Stay as Hylda and it will help you to remember the good times you had with her.....👍🚐👍
I like being called Sweetie and who doesn't love pye. I like the old spelling for pye for tradition. I thought about Winner winner chicken dinner., or luv luv me do. Nextime, that wor
My name is Karen and my friends call me Kaz. 747 is because I love getting on aeroplanes and heading off on adventures around the world. I first used this handle back in the early days of the internet. If I was choosing a name today it might be KazA380 ✈️
I used to use "ratbag" as an endearing term for my kids!! Found on some forums it was taken so started using Bagrat. My Grandchildren used to call me WooWoo and that stuck but apparently that is more commmon than you would think as well. When I decided to use it on skype it was taken.
Becksagogo because of my love of David Beckham but everything Becks related was taken. Then on the radio I heard a song with a go go in the lyrics! Hope together it doesn't make me sound like a burlesque dancer!
P'S. I'M over my infatuation with Mr B and have turned my attentions to Idris Elba....watch this space
Treffynnon is our house name. I bought the dot com domain 20 years ago and as an ID I have never yet found it to be unavailable on any site.....unless I have already used it and forgotten!
I normally use my real name on forums ie Paul & my surname. However I don't want my real name showing up on Google and people knowing I suffer from a heart condition. Apart from that I would change my profile and use my real name in a flash.
Paulbounce came from trading Bitcoin online. Due to online hackers and scammers I decided not to trade using my real name. It's to easy for people to target you - same as putting your bank details and address online !
So I needed a pseudo to show as my user name on a trading platform and had to make one up on the spot - hence Paulbounce started his cyberspace existence.
I do like a nice lamb chop or loin of lamb but lambchop brought back memories of Sheri Lewis & Lambchop (bit naf I thought ) so sleeksheep it is. The avatar is my second favourite quokka - not for eating thou....
My name came out of frustration! I tried at least half a dozen names and had them all rejected. I do regret my choice now because it seems like I am not a person in my own right! (Although I am very happy to be Ray’s wife). I agree though, some people’s names are really interesting.

All I can is Ray is a lucky guy.....best wishes....
spot on...….. incidentally the world record speed on a two wheel pedal bike was broken this week at I think 174 mph albeit tailgating.....sounds like a bit of lunacy to me !
I chose Rosemary as it is my proper name but nobody uses it. I am generally known as Rosie but also as Rose and even Roz. The "b" is the first letter of my surname and 1349 is my area dialling code minus the 0. (Easter Ross in case anyone is interested) 😉
Grandchild's mispronunciation (she is 11 now and would be mortified if she knew) and because my AF feels like a trapped butterfly. I regret it now but quite enjoy the variations people come up with.
My Nan's were called Sprogs nan and Peter’s nan. I had a brother called Peter and as a youngster, I went through life thinking it was unfair that my brother had a nan and I didn’t 😢. Imagine my relief when it was explained that they were named after their dogs which I never saw, one called Peter and the other Sprog!!
Auriculaire is the common French for atrial as the atria are called " little ears" here. Latin medical terms are not used as much. They are francicised.
When I learned anatomy xxx years ago auricle was the name for the top chambers of the heart. I may be worng but I fear atrium came from USA? I first came on atrium as a name for it about 30 years ago.
That's interesting. It's odd how languages evolve taking different directions. 500 years ago the French used many words which were very similar to or identical to the words we use in English today. But they now have quite different words for the same things.
Gosh Bob I had completely forgotten the Auricles and like you was how I learned my anatomy. I also remember as an early teen some ...splutter/cough... decades ago joining the British Red Cross and having to draw a crude version of the heart and name the 4 areas.
Just found this on the Encyclopaedia Britannica website.
“In humans the atria are the two upper chambers of the heart. Each is roughly cube-shaped except for an ear-shaped projection called an auricle. (The term auricle has also been applied, incorrectly, to the entire atrium.)”
It follows what you said about “little ears” Auriculaire.
Mine as you may have guessed is about football. My team is a small non league team called Enfield Town Football Club. We are a fan owned club formed after our former club was sold for developers. We only get about 350-450 supporters so can do with every scrap of publicity we can get!
Ha! I spent my life when people ask how I got the name Blue, adding immediately that it had nothing to do with movies..........then I became a photographer!! 😂👀
There was me thinking your choice of forum name confirmed what my husband always says (approvingly) about Nikon - that their photos tend towards a blue tone! He’ll be disappointed it’s actually just because it’s your real name 😆
Actually Blue is a name I've been known by for many years and there is a story behind it but it's not very interesting. I was adopted at 18 months old and the 'sunday' name I had was given to me by someone I never knew so I've always hated the name and no, I'm not telling!! It just became the norm and besides the bills are addressed to Blue so...this is me!!!
My Dad had AF and died last year. On the day of his funeral, at nearly midnight, I was smoking a ciggie... outside by his car. Suddenly a black crow flew out the bush and went up into the sky and went across a light, non cloudy bit like Batman. I waved goodbye to my Dad. xxxx
So 4 months later I was diagnosed with AF and BlackCrow seemed fitting.
My Dad died many years ago of HF caused by AF and emphysema (COPD) but I still regularly find myself saying 'Dad would have so loved to see that'. The words 'Rest in peace' are followed by 'and rise in glory' in the prayer book.......
I am afraid I fall into the boring category with a name like Bob56. No prizes for guessing Bob is my real name and 56 stands for the year of my birth (19, not 18!). I submit a few posts on various related topics, but I am surprised when so many people get back to me to thank me for how I have helped them. It's only after more careful examination that I realise they think I am BobD! I used to correct them religiously, but realised after a while that it wasn't really necessary. I do, however, feel it's a bit like impersonating a police officer, as I don't possess the encyclopaedic knowledge of all matters AF as BobD does, Maybe I should change my nickname before the urge to be a bit mischievous gets too tempting!
My mum gave me a box of 100 post cards of cats not long before she died so I was looking at the box when I needed a password so I used love100cats which has been quite therapeutic for me as we both are(were) cat lovers.
I used to live on the border between Wales and England and at the time kept a blog with the same tittle documenting my family life there. I stopped blogging after my fourth child was born but still use the title as an online username 👍🏼
I stumbled across my user name with a desire to keep it short and unconsciously included the "af" and then in an expression of how I was feeling at the time, annoyed that I had avoided a need to use major drugs since I had TB, aged 16 and here I was at 80 facing a shed load! Also a sad reminder of my beloved father who died when I was 11 from a failing heart.
So I had a sense of being cast adrift.... thus "Raft" seemed appropriate
All Serene... My sister had mental heath issues which manifested as not being being able to face the world..... It was all too fast and loud and brutal. She ended up in residential care and I used to go to England from Chicago to see how she was doing. I used to walk in and say "How are you doing Jose" (Josephine). She always grinned and said "All serene bro, all serene". When she died at 69 , it was 2 weeks before I was informed as they lost my phone/email. ... I was able to arrange the funeral and get there. That was 2012...
What a fun thread and interesting to read. I do sometimes wonder whatever made someone come up with the name they have chosen. I nearly resurrected 'midget' a nickname from my time in the forces but it's quite misleading when not known as I'm 6ft! Then I considered pancake due to it being the nickname I had throughout school due to my surname which relates to the famous suffragettes. However, I finally settled on Patsy (also known as Pat, Tricia & Patricia) 10 the day I was born on and red being my favourite colour.
I'm quite new to the forum, I read the relevant posts everyday and it has been so helpful
Haha! In the back of my mind when I’ve seen your name, I’ve wondered what the cbsr stood for, assuming bpm was beats per minute ... sr for sinus rhythm maybe? etc!
It’s funny how we can read heart rhythm into everything! X
Hmmm. You might wish you'd never asked. Momist comes from a follower of the Greek god Momer. Momer, I believe, was one of the minor gods who annoyed everyone on Mt. Olympus by being too pernickety, and ended up by being cast out by Zeus. He is described as "not suffering fools gladly". I rather thought that this sounded a bit like me. I'll give anyone a break for being wrong, as we all make mistakes, but I can't abide anyone who persists in being foolish.
👍 Me too, I have to keep reminding myself of the three gatekeepers, before you speak ask yourself, 'Is it true, is it kind, is it necessary?' Very difficult 🙄
I know where you are coming from but this forum has caused me to “try” and be more understanding with those who share different views but I am glad I asked the question. The answers have been fascinating.....
Thanks for this side bar Flapjack. It is nice to chat about other things on this forum too. I started to use madscientist as an email address years ago. I liked being a scientist and felt like somewhat of a superhero when the kids I would do demonstrations for said I had "mad" skills. Recently however, I lost my 29 year scientist job to company restructuring. A year later, I was still out of work and newly diagnosed with AF. I guess in a way I was still "angry" when I joined this community, so the nickname still fit. Today I am back to work and hopefully will have mad skills again in my new position.
Bit late to this party. Frances is my real name and 123 was the house number of my childhood home. When I first joined AFA way back when it was very early days and was member No 3. and don’t think it ever entered people’s heads then to use nicknames? The 2 previous members used their real name too. It was first forum I and joined so it was all new.
Forward some years when AFA joined healthunlocked I had to rejoin it wouldn’t accept just Frances as I was before so added the numbers. If I was to have a nickname now it would either be Mrs Bears or Teddybears but that is a different story🤣. X
