Hi everyone am having an AF session today. Going to sit it out. Just taken 50grm flecanide have already taken 150grms. Pulse went up to 101 then managed to get it down to 64 stuck at that for about 5 hours then went back up to87. Hoping it is coming back down. Did too much the weekend silly me. Done all the routine, breathing, cold water, going to the toilet popping the ears any more suggestions.? Been for a walk.

I take bisoprolol in the mornings never took more than prescribed. Took my 100mg flecanide about an hour ago. Xx

Mine has stopped! Have you got a beta blocker you could take. Sometimes Flecainide works for me sometimes it doesn’t. Lucky today.

Keep calm. Di xx

Good Morning Nonam, how are you today? My pulse is still to high not crazy but normally quite low. I was on amiodarone for I think 12 months or more found it very good but I think they took me off it due to age. I only thing I didn't like that I had to wear a hat in the sunshine because you can't catch the sun with it. I was annoyed when they took me off it because I had settled down. But then I am on flecanide now didn't have a bout for 10 months then two in three weeks. It so annoys me I get angry and upset about it. I know I should keep calm which most of the time I do but I am on my own and it can make you a bit weird sometimes. Never mind. Are you in AF now? Am at docs at 9.20 but would much rather stay in bed with my dogs. Hopefully can cadge a lift. Keep on smiling and I will too.xx

Morning Gillybean hope you get your af sorted out it can be so distressing and annoying. Like you on Amiodarone great to hear you were ok on it as I worry re side effects. I admire how you cope being on your own. I'm attending a session tonight re my anxiety and not sleeping...only got three hours last night with help of small diazepam which I don't want to depend on. During the I try to keep it normal but need to rest in afternoon. Going for wee walks round houses. Let you know how I get on....good luck at docs....cuddle to dogs.

Gillybean123 in reply to Nonam

Hi there, he said my pulse was steady which I new, and that I can take an extra 100mg of flecanide that will make 400 but to take Morning and night. Feel very zapped this morning but then again I always am first thing. Think I am on the right track. Are you ok?

Started my session with councillor last night re anxiety/insomnia..was proud didn't cry😀 Got work on my mood thoughts etc....and sleep hygiene. Little sleep got but feel better not using diazepam. Did a wee yoga stretch session and read book when up overnight. Will keep going....hope you have a good day and AF settled.

I was given diazepan once but I didn't take them. My daughter had them years ago. So I know what they are like. You need to get your mind on something. Sorry to ask how old are you, are you in a relationship. Xx

Have slept well, felt quite good then checked my pulse still high for me. Will see what doctor says. So annoying. What is your normal pulse rate. Xx

Glad you slept well. My hr is usually about 50-60 which is why I only take the Nebivolol as a PIP otherwise I can go quite low. How often do you have AF episodes?

Gillybean123 profile image
Gillybean123 in reply to

Hi there, I hadn't had an episode for 10 months now I have had two in three weeks. Prior to that I was always in and out of hospital then decided enough is enough and stopped drinking, stopped eating red meat sausages bacon. Try desperately to new lose weight but one of my tablets holds me back a bit. My pulse is normally 52 to 60. It is hovering around the 80 so I do feel zapped. It is back in sinus rhythm now and doctor said it is very steady. Still don't feel right but going on the right tracks. I have had my pulse at 250 a few times at the beginning. That was horrendous but that was the early days and I didn't know I had AF. Never heard of it before then. Anyway am going to chill out for a couple of days not going to work will sort my dogs out somehow. You have a good day. Xxx

Did you ever have your ablation? I am nearly 76 and have decided against it. xx

Gillybean123 profile image
Gillybean123 in reply to

Ps I have had one ablation in 2013 which worked for 12 months then I lost my lovely husband bless him and everything went wrong the next couple of years. I,am 69. Xx was given chance to have another one last July but couldn't make my mind up but have got to see specialist in September and will definitely have it done if I can. Have you had one, it does scare me though.--

No I have decided to go into permanent AF with my EPs agreement. Just trying to get tablets sorted. Started another episode last night, so reckon I’m nearly there. Have at last found a lovely arrhythmia nurse who answers my calls👍

Gillybean123 in reply to

Sorry Hylda what do you mean permanent AF. What will your pulse be if you are permanent. Don't you feel poorly.

in reply to Gillybean123

I am told that like Thomas your heart will wobble about but you and your body will become accustomed to it so you won’t feel it so much. My Apple Watch is telling me I’m in AF still, but I certainly can’t feel it anymore.

Gillybean123 profile image
Gillybean123 in reply to

Well I admire you Hylda, fair play. The doctor told me once that my body can cope with my heart going faster because I am used to it. I think because my pulse has been so low for a couple of years that this reading has knocked me about a bit. Ah well. Here's to a good day for everyone. You take care Hylda. Xx

And you xx

When I had Paroxysmal AF I found going to sleep after taking any additional medications was the way to deal with an episode.

Now I have Permanent AF although at least 99 per cent of the time I am unaware I have AF. I'm sure it effects my energy levels, as does my Asthma. Today is a gardening day, which means 10 minutes gardening followed by 15 minutes rest before another 10 minutes gardening.

Gillybean123 profile image
Gillybean123 in reply to Thomas45

Morning Thomas45 I think the medication totally wears you out. What is your pulse rate normally. I love my garden but some nights the watering can really wear me out. People say you do too much. But what's too much if you have always been active. X

Thomas45 in reply to Gillybean123

My normal resting pulse rate is on the high side of normal and sometimes over, anywhere between 68-110. I was put on a beta blocker by a well-meaning hospital doctor, after my rate went over 200 bpm during an operation to remove my appendix.

I felt different and better, my pulse rate was about 60 for 7 weeks and then I suffered the first of 2 side effects, urticaria which has now become chronic urticaria. While I was being weaned off the beta blocker I had the 2nd side effect - constriction of my lungs and chest pain, which led to a 2-night stay in hospital.

I now tend to avoid extra medications. I had 2 colonoscopies earlier this year and for both I refused sedation and Entonox.

I am a 150 pulse flutterer rather than a fibby... My EP said dont bother with the emergency room if it comes back...Just take 50mg Metopropol (beta blocker) every 12 hours until it converts to 63 in in 12 to 24 hours .. I usually take 25 mg. I have only had one episode..April

How do you feel when your pulse is that fast, I have had mine at 250 nearly blew my machine up ha ha. I couldn't walk without holding onto something.

allserene profile image
allserene in reply to Gillybean123

I was 150 but just felt thudding sensation like when I have been working in the yard in 90F with only coffee and beer.... Probably had flutter 2 years and it comes and goes and I didn't even know it.. Nothing since starting 25mg x2 beta blockers (min dose) and water from April

Hi Gilly ...I sort of meandered from Ilkley/Guiseley to Florida to Washington State (3,200 miles), to Wisconsin where I have washed up...... Negotiating the health care jungle in the US takes some getting used to. When the nurse says "would you like me to open the blinds", you have to say "How much will that cost"... A 'Free' procedure under 'annual wellness' is free, but the anesthetic costs a thousand and if they find a tiny something they need to incise, then that's another thousand plus 500 for analysing it. So these "free wellness checks" are like the 'Free' brake and battery check at the garage...they are a "come on in" and they WILL cost you... The US is Raw capitalism and I feel like bambi walking through a tiger park.... To your doctors you are an income stream and not a patient... The natives are born to it and think it's normal... Oh well that's my money rant done today ... You can take the Yorkshireman out of Yorkshire, but you can't take Yorkshire out of the Yorkshireman.. lol !

Sorry about that Gilly... People get over divorces eventually but someone dying seems so very different. My grandmother's husband was killed in the first war and she had 5 small children. My dad was 18 months old. I never did see her smile. But... onwards and upwards and all we can do is the make the best of life that we can... Nice place Tewky.... and not far from Hereford where my family originate... (Ocle Pychard).......
