Hi, I am a 71 year old lady, had a heart attack in January have been on Bisoprolol and Atenonolol now have just taken my first Nebivolol, my GP was reluctant to prescribe it as she said it isn't really for the heart. Has anyone taken it after a heart attack and if so how did you get on. Thank you.

Hello Keanau, can’t really comment on your GP’s reluctance to prescribe as nebivolol is most definitely for the heart. It is designed to slow the heart rate and many people on this site are using it including me. It maybe however that you don’t need to regulate your heart rate. Think you should as her to be more specific to put your mind at rest.

I was changed to Nebivolol about five months ago by my EP and it has been great so far. I have felt much better on this than the Bisoprol which I was on previously.

It is considerably more expensive than other beta blockers and so some GPS are reluctant to prescribe it. Good luck with it.😊

Thanks Patsy, Still early days. But i think my GP was reluctant to prescribe as my blood pressure was normal before the heart attack . Now low and pulse to fast. I think maybe Nebivolol is more suited for other conditian's. Have to have my blood pressure checked regularly.

I have never had a problem with my blood pressure and was given Bisop as a beta blocker to help control af. before switching to Nebivolol. It is quite common to be given a beta blocker after having had a heart attack. You need to talk to you GP or a cardio nurse who can explain everything more clearly. Perhaps it would help to take someone with you as we don't always take everything on board, especially when dealing with the unknown. Try not to worry too much. My father lived for twenty+ years after his heart attack.
