I think my Kardia is playing up!

It gave me a reading of 122 when the number of spikes on the A4 chart was only 41, then gave me a reading of 71 just two minutes later when the number of spikes showing was only 38! With the former reading I definitely expected something much lower, as the spikes would normally be much closer together for a high reading. I've suspected there was a problem like this for a while, but not seen it as clearly as this before.

What is the connection between the number of spikes showing and the reading? And why do I have this discrepancy. Any suggestions, please?

Has this always been the case or just recently? Can you look back in your history to see any correlation?

I haven't kept many records, but last January 48 spikes gave a reading of 110. A year ago, when I had no doubts about it, 36 spikes gave a reading of 75 which, at roughly double the number of spikes, seemed OK

Have you converted the recording to PDF? If you look below the rhythm strip you see little 'markers' which indicate the electrical impulses (I asked Kardia tech about this). I have a couple of recordings where an electrical impulse is showing but there is a gap in the QRSs. That is the only explanation I can think of - I don't see how Kardia can be faulty but I am sure someone will explain in a minute that it can! Fibfab said it was counting too many beats on one recording so many it can go the other way?

Thank you - I will look into this.

Try a Lead II recording, left thigh to right fingers as described on the Alivecor site. Failing that, change the battery or update the software maybe.

I first noticed the problem after a recent update, which seemed to happen automatically. Have others had a recent (last two months) update, which changed the appearance somewhat? How do you normally get updates?

I will try the lead ll recording. I had also wondered if this was a sign that a battery change was needed.

Mine started to give me odd readings when it needed a battery. Have you tried a new battery?

I wondered about this. I will certainly try it. Thank you.

just checked Kardia manual, it suggests 2 different ways to take readings, plus I'd also try moving away from any electrical interference, chargers, microwaves etc + change the battery.

You may also choose from two other placements:

 For a Lead II ECG, the left knee should contact the electrode closer to the top of the

smartphone or tablet and the right hand should contact the electrode closer to the

bottom of the smartphone or tablet.

 For an Anterior Precordial Lead, the device can be placed on the lower left side of the

chest, just below the pectoral muscle. The bottom of the smartphone or tablet should

be pointing towards the center of the body
