Can't see any replies to this question and I'm not sure I've got the right end of the stick. Have you had lots of other drugs which haven't worked so you feel amiodarone is last resort? Not sure that's what you meant.
My story: six years on metoprolol for annoying skipped beats (pst?) 2014: event- converted- six months later second event -For three years PIP Flecanide with metoprolol- gradually more events and longer time to convert with pip.
Opted for first ablation- all is beautiful for seven months - till af event- chose - Flecanide one month then second ablation. Bad healing period - given propanol- yikes bad reaction. Given Amiodarone and metoprolol and two months and within six weeks back in flutter- back on Flecanide ( feeling lousy with it) and also developed long qt wave on ECG.
After seven months back in flutter so chose ablation to clean up flutter- lots of burns. In healing period on Amiodarone and Metoprolol . every several weeks in flutter after cardio version - had two cv. Metoprolol making me feel really bad as well
Last week EP said he wouldn’t convert me and since Amiodarone was the strongest anti rhythmic drug there - would only use rate control med to help me feel like walking exercising and live comfortably . Trying Ditalzam- since metoprolol is really doing a number on me
For years I have been 65 bpm- and now at 100- it’s difficult for me
My question is anyone else med intolerant like me? My goal was to be med free-so I chose ablation treatment. I can have a fourth ablation or a pacemaker- wonder what’s a pacemaker would do for me?
Thank you. I understand now. I have paroxysmal AF but my husband in permanent af and says no symptoms. Though I feel he is much slower and can get a bit breathless. Has other issuez too
Hi over the years meds have been difficult. On adizam digoxin and apixaban at present. Had open heart surgery for valve repair . Tias and af. Last year at Barts had a two lead pacemaker it has made a great difference would recommend if it is offered. Good luck for the future. X
Hi,
I’ve had 2 cardio version and the 2nd one worked. This was only because of amiodrone which I have been on for 3 years.I also take bisoprolol one in the morning one in the evening.2 apaxiban 1 ramapril of a night and 1-2 omeprazole.I haven’t had ablation I have been offered but just worried knowing my luck it will not work or make me worse or need multiple ablation.I feel ok generally I have had some weird left side chest pains but they come and go.Im 47 I feel like sometimes I could go into AF.But that’s if I drink multiple days in a row.Or eat too much or naughty food avoid blue cheese and Parmesan or just have a very small amount .i take 1 200 amiodrone tablet a day but If I feel like I could go into AF or get that short breathe I take another half sometimes 2 in total I’m also worried there stopping too work at times.Saying that I haven’t actually gone into AF only when I stopped amiodrone for 3 months then had a massive AF attack. So put myself back on again and agreed by cardiologist.I hate being on it as it can be so toxic.thats my story with amiodrone I just wish they could find a guaranteed cure.Im amazed in this day and age there’s not a breakthrough with millions of sufferers world wide.I do find Valium can help to relax and not make me worry too much but I only take occasionally.Hope this helps maybe in some way how old are you and how much amiodrone do you take ?
Frozen fruits are good for making you feel a bit more health get some abc vitamins with magnesium that can also help.Ive had massive stress past 3-4 yrs so that really doesn’t help !
Best
Dan
I've been off all meds for flutters and only take Xarelto. Hope to be off that in June
Sometimes you have to look hard at your lifestyle, particularly drinking, eating exercise and weight?
Try regular brisk, consistent, daily exercise for half an hour (more if you wish) to get your cardio system working. Walking is fine.
However, there is an old saying "you can't outrun a bad diet".
There is a fair amount of evidence that weight and lifestyle is linked to AFIB to the point where some practitioners prescribe lifestyle changes first, in the expectation that the patient will not need a lifetime of pills and interventions. Doesn't sell many drugs though.
