Hi there has anyone anything positive to say about amiorodozone . I have been taking it for 4 weeks( temporarily) in order to settle a/f. I have found no side effects and even feel better.I had been on flecainide for about 8 years and have had 2ablations. Flecainide had ceased to work for me and this is now the point I am at. I will be having blood test every three months.I didn’t want to go on new medication because of all the bad reviews but I will have to make a decision at some point where I go from here.I would be grateful to know if any one has been on amiorodozone for any length of time and if so how it had affected them. Thank You

Seeking info on side affect of medication
Hi.
I was on Amioderone for 2 years + another 2 years and the another 2 years. 6 years in total. I neber had a problem with it at all. Its a goode drug for what its used for. But some people have a bad time with it specially long term. Best to use 1 - 2 years max for most. If you feel good with it, stay with it, but you need regular 6 monthly blood tests i believe .
Phil
Are not on it now? If not Why? Are you taking something else less toxic? Thanks
Amiodarone is usually the drug of last resort but it does work. It also has other effects and can cause lung and thyroid damage so best to keep having the blood tests and keep to short term use. By the way flecainide doesn't stop working but AF does progess.
I have been on 200mg Amiodarone for almost 6 months as it was the only drug which would control my AF and has done a brilliant job. I had a thyroid test 3 months as it was OK. I should only be on it apparently until I have my 3rd ablation, but I have had no different side affects to other drugs I have been on, Sotalol, Bisprolol and Flecainide , all 4 make me feel tired but you never know if it is an age thing anyway, I am an active 67 year old male.
I took it for 4 months to put my heart back in Rhythm, and it worked. It also appeared to make my heart even slower. It went down to 41 bpm so I went back to the doctor and agreed to stop taking it. It made me lethargic and sleepy, it does have a large number of possible side effects and I would not want to be on it for a very long time. My heart rate is now settled at 46 and I am waiting for my second Ablation, after I have the second ablation the decision will be if I go back in for a Pacemaker. If the second ablation works then I will try and keep away from the pacemaker.
I took it for about 7.5 months from Afib, through cardioversion and then post ablation. I had no side effects. When I said to the arrythmia nurse once that it was a horrible drug, her reply was "it's a brilliant drug with side effects in some". Which changed my outlook towards it somewhat.
It can be more troublesome long-term, I think though.
Good luck
Hi. I took Amiodarone for 8 months. It was the only way to control my A Fib. I took it for 2 more months after my ablation to help that have as good a chance as possible. I did find I was incredibly sensitive to sunlight while on it, but had no other side effects. I was very glad to take it, at the time I felt it was saving my sanity as well as my life.Sue
I too it for about eight months. At about six months it stopped working and I had an ablation two months later in July 2019. Been AFIB free since then. Did have some side effects especially with my memory.
