It is a BIG day for me...

Hey afib family! My doctor has given me the green light to stop metoprolol! I stopped flecainide 3 or 4 weeks ago and asked if he would consider taking me off the metoprolol and blood thinners and he agreed to the metoprolol but recommended I stay on the blood thinners for now. For those that have stopped metoprolol, did you stop all at once or ween off? I am both excited and nervous. I asked for a pill in the pocket fall back but they said to just contact them if I have irregular beats and they will decide then. Wish me luck!!

How much Metoprolol are you taking daily? I was on 2 x 12.5 and just completely stopped taking it.

It's not as though you're stopping a hefty dose is it. Perhaps for peace of mind, reduce to 12.5 for a few days before stopping completely. I'm guessing that your EP didn't advise what would be best?

Best wishes for an AF free life.

I asked the doc about coming off in stages and he said to just stop all at once. Thanks!

What changed in your condition that prompted your doctor to make this change.

Hey Dave. I had an ablation back on December 3rd. Stopped taking Flecainide on March 30th and now stopped the metoprolol yesterday, April 24th.

Jafib, I would strongly advise you to reduce your metoprolol intake to 12.5 mg twice a day for at least 3-4 weeks before cutting it out completely. Coming off a beta blocker can be a nightmare for many people (can cause anxiety), especially if you've been taking it for a long time. Good luck.

The doc told me to just stop completely, which I did and all seems good so far.
