What sleep aids are safe with SVT, PoTs and Metoprolol

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if any of you know what sleep aids I could use while taking metoprolol for SVT and PoTS. I used to take Zzzquil but there is alcohol in that. Looking for something natural that won’t exacerbate my sensitive heart. Thank you.

Meditation. Sleep CBT programme. Good sleep hygiene. Regular sleep patterns.

If all else fails the only thing I take is Bach’s Night Rescue Remedy. Always works for me along with a bit of meditation. If there is something on my mind going on I get up, write my journal to ‘dump’ the revolving thoughts and go straight back to sleep.

What is interrupting your sleep?

I take a med with the name of zimovane 3.75 mg. Whereas, I take meds for epilepsy, including Atorvastatin, monomil, Dabigatran nicorandil bisoprolol for the heart problems and lamotrigin and Epilim Chromo for epilepsy. I only take the zimovane as required such as last night where I couldn't sleep and today being an important birthday (65 yo) . Cor I was out in seconds. Hope you get that which will work for you. Take care. Dave

Thanks Phyllis. I had a cracking day, ending with a curry. Now I've got to get over it, particularly the curry. Dave xx

Melatonin 300mcg I found is very safe , non habit forming and no residual sleep effects in the morning. Its totally natural and produced by the pineal gland when going to sleep.

If your checking online ( for some reason UK does not allow the importation of melatonin ) look for the lowest dose - 300mcg , find this low dose is more effective than the 5mg dose.

I was in the States last year and bought a supply of melatonin, as you said, it is prescription only in the UK and is sometimes given to autistic children to help with their sleep pattern. I haven't tried it as I bought it for my husband as I have no difficulty sleeping.

Contrary to all advice, I use my phone and lap-top and my husband always finds me propped up in bed fast asleep with the devices in front of me.
