Betablockers

Does anyone else find they have lost strength and feeling in their fingers on betablockers? Sewing a button on is a work of art and am totally unable to open the new childproof lids on soap pods!!

Hi Hilda - it’s not only beta-blockers which I don’t take. I have lost so much sensation in my fingers which I’m not sure is down to meds or just older age and illness generally. I even have problems getting the touch controls on my hob and oven to work.

We have a special needs great-granddaughter and although she is six she uses a buggy and I have a terrible job with the straps on that and her car seat!!

Old age isn’t for the faint hearted - a phrase I heard often from my gran.

You're not alone - I really struggle with my grandsons' buggies and car seats too, the mechanisms are so stiff and unyielding.

Too true!

Beats dying young though!

Not the beta blockers no , probably just overuse of hands maybe carple tunnel syndrome or natural aging see your doctor might be an easy fix

Had carpal tunnel fixed, not quite the same feeling. Was changed to calcium channel blockers once, but they weren’t effective so back to Nebivolol!

‘Fixing’ carpal tunnel syndrome relieves the awful pain, tingling & numbness, but leaves intrinsic weakness as it cuts through ligaments. I can never open jars or turn the shower cool enough 🦞! My husband forgets we tender females can’t withstand as much heat as hairy males 🦍.

Beta blockers used to give me cold hands and feet.

I have found that when the weather is cold and I am

outdoors my fingers can feel really painfully cold. I have woken up a few times with pins and needles in the hands. This may not be the BBs of course- there are plenty of other explanations. I would speak to your GP about this. There is a very useful and straightforward questionnaire which you can use to determine whether you might have had an adverse drug reaction here:

See the section headed “Questionnaire”

Hello Hylda

I have taken Bisoprolol for about 2 years’ now and the dose has gradually been increased from 2.5 to 5 and now to 7.5 mg daily. This winter I noticed that the index and middle fingers in my right hand were often feeling ‘dead’. I mentioned this to my GP and he said it is Raynaud’s syndrome and is caused by the BB’s but they want me to continue taking them. Now I think all my fingers on both hands are affected to some extent and not necessarily just when it is cold. I also take other meds for my heart but have only been on them since January this year so none of them can be the cause as it started before I was taking them. I have a Kardia for checking my AF and that won’t always work which I think is due to this problem with my fingers,
