Any information on Flutter?

I started on medication for BP about 5 weeks ago and have had 3 episodes of Flutter since ( for the first time) No AF during that time - which I have about once a year now.

Feel a bit like I did when AF started- until I got used to it! Wonder if anyone with flutter has particular triggers. Was told it is the high BP triggering flutter but my BP has been good for a week or so and had more flutter on Saturday. Stops by itself in 1-2 hours.

Be good to hear of anyone's experience of anything flutter related please

Hi,

Was on Ramipril, switched to indapamide , now very low dose 1.25mg plus Amiloride5mg A and E ECG confirmed Flutter.

Thanks

indapamide can cause irregular/fast heart rate, it might be worth asking your GP / EP if there are alternatives?

Problem is I had first flutter attack while on Ramipril - which didn't work for BP reduction. Indapamide has been excellent for BP - we've halved the dose and am hoping it will be OK

I suffered flutter as a result of my fist Ablation for afib!

Question: Was the flutter specifically diagnosed via your EP specialist or your GP (as GP's can often diagnose the wrong thing, mine did until I saw my EP)?

When your in flutter how does you chest feel and how is your exercise tolerance?

Cheers,

Marcus

Thankyou Marcus. Very helpful. Did you have flutter ablated?

Because my AF is yearly. Just started A Flutter hence my original question

I know that some GP's are not good at managing AF. I have an excellent GP who has a particular interest in primary care cardiology. He has a good working relationship with the Consultant treating me and will ring for advice if necessary. GP's can't be expert in all specialties and actually have a very difficult job and constant criticism is demoralizing. Mind you any GP who can't diagnose atrial flutter probably shouldn't be practicing

I bit harsh on GP's!

Echo all your thoughts, and mine is amazing.

But... when it comes to arrhythmias there is cross over of different arrhythmias, and you personally don't ant to muck around.

Once you have an EP, get your GP to email them and ask if they concur with your GP's assessment and plan.

If the EP won't respond, get another.

if your FGP won't correspond with your EP, get another.

I'm fortunate to have an excellent GP who liaises with my EP.

I would encourage all to do the same.

Flutter and SVT are often mixed up by GP's, along with other arrhythmias.

I had my first experience of Atrial Flutter February 2018 short duration of 20 minutes or so. I did not go to see my Doctor but immediately noticed the frequency and urgency of passing urine which lasted for a whole twelve months, and only stopped after My C.T.I. Flutter Ablation in March 2019. I had no idea it was connected to the Atrial Natriuretic hormone released by the Atrium. Unfortunately, I had a prolonged seven and a half episode of Flutter and a second episode of three hours whilst on holiday in SanFrancisco in November 2018 and was admitted to the hospital there, both responded back to normal without treatment. I have had no further frequency or urgency of passing urine since the Ablation. I will ask the Cardiologist when I see him at my three months follow up appointment in June to explain it all to me. Hope this helps.

I developed 're entrant 'fast atrial flutter in right atria 9 days after a successful left atria PVI ablation for AFIB. Rate Controlled by diltiazem I was 140 bpm. I could not breathe enough just walking to the kitchen to get a brew! EPS registrar thonks it may have been promoted by the flecainide I was on to control the afib I had stopped. I had a second ablation a month after the first to get rid. Right atria flutter ablations are 95% succesful and a less risky procedure I was advised. Flutter stopped during the procedure 26 Feb 18 and has not returned. The ablation was no issue. Bit of pain felt in right shoulder during the ablation but stopped when the RF stopped. No flutter or A Fib since my ablations . Been 100% drug free since May 15 2018.

Best wishes

I was diagnosed with A flutters last April 2018 and had an ablation in August 2018. After the ablation I had pain in my heart for months and was prescribed Colchicine and that seemed to take care of the pain. I still have some extra beats but not like before. I'm still on Xaralto and hope to be off of that in a few months.
