Morning, just after some info please. I've been in the Cardiac Unit for 7 days now with atrial flutter. Previously I've had AF diagnoses and meds nearly 2 years ago and been pretty stable. My resting BP is around 129 - 133 and despite having amiodrone and lots of other meds both orally and via IV, it's not budging much, but does drop when asleep. I have probably had the flutter for several weeks following several Covid type infections to chest , lymph glands and throat. My breathing had got worse over 8 weeks of being unwell at home and I became puffed up with fluid, as my heart struggled to cope. By the time I went to hospital my heart was failing to cope. Please dont delay going for fear of Covid like I did . So has anyone gone home from hospital on this drug with a high heart rate and if so what was it please? Just wondering if the drugs will bring it down? I had 2 x the drug that stops and starts your heart Drena something and that did not work. Also had other IV drugs. BP now normal and fluid going out of my body too. Thanks all.

So sorry to hear about what you are going through. I think you will need to work with the Doctors there about your options however - 2 sources of information

So much is still unkown about how COVID affects the whole body but please know that this forum is here for support so please don’t hesitate to ask questions.
When you say that your resting BP (blood pressure) is 129-133, do you really mean heart rate?

Yes, sorry Jean BPM lol
Lol I thought as much!
Yes, I've been sent home with my heart at that rate, but it was pending a cardioversion. Are you waiting for one? The hospital said it was around 120, but I knew how to check the monitor that I was wearing, so knew it was more 130. I'm afraid I said to the nurse tell me which button to press to see my heart rate, when she didn't seem keen for me to know I said if she didn't I was going to press every button on the monitor (I did say it kindly). Honestly it's my heart rate that's being measured. She showed me and I'd sneakily have a look.
Horrible to be sent home with a heart rate as high as yours. It wore me out to walk from the kitchen to lounge. It was also discovered later that my thyroid was under-active due to taking Amiodarone, other members on here have said the same. I now take pills to rectify that which has given me some energy back.
Flecainide is now the most popular pill to take, why not ask them if you could try that? Never, ever would I be happy to hear anyone is taking Amiodarone.
Please let us know how you get on.

The drug may have been Adenosine (sometimes called Impending Doom). This is often used for a chemical cardioversion, especially with SVT. They gave me this 2 years ago when I had atrial flutter- it dropped my heart rate for a few seconds then it went straight back to 150bpm. The following day they did an electrical cardioversion.
