Just got referred for Ablation consult

A week ago I got the results of my mobile heart monitor, 7 episodes of SVT (up to 17 min long) and 2 episodes of VTach. I was terrified to take medication to treat it, because my body is sensitive to medication and I’ve had a severe allergic reaction to a med last year that left me traumatized. After delaying, I finally tried the medication prescribed for my heart yesterday, Bisoprolol. I only took half of what my cardiologist told me to start on. And I’m glad I did. I got severe dizziness/ things were zooming in n out, got very cold/ chattering teeth, & also shortness of breath. Went to the ER. Later on my body felt heavy & got wore out to walk one set of stairs, still now I’m feeling yucky & out of breath & my HR goes up fast now. My cardiologist suggested to try a different beta blocker or an coagulant medication, but I fear even more now, so I requested a referral for Ablation. I went to the ER again today for the same symptoms of the side effects of the Bisoprolol. 7 hours later, the ER doc said he’s just going to prescribe medication. Didn’t have me hooked up to monitor the whole time or no IV, even though I’m dehydrated. This was my 3rd time to ER this week. It blows my mind that I’m dealing with this at age 28, and no one in my family has history of heart problems. I know the eblation has risks, but in my head, I rather procedure than to try any more medication. I know my body. Any advice?

hi

I'm sorry you having such a time of it. I had an ablation for AF 12 days ago and it was fine. There are lots of posts on here with people who are young and who have SVT. If you search the topics you'll find them and can read about other people's experiences.

You need a referral to an electrophysiologist (EP) ED doctors and GPs are not experts in this area. Will your GP refer you? Your GP may be better re the medications whilst you wait to see cardiac docs. Going to ED means you'll see a different doctor each time and if they don't call cardiology to see you, you'll likely to get different advice every time. Your GP at least will be consistent and should be able to get advice from cardiology. Who organised your heart monitor?

Whilst you are waiting do make sure you keep hydrated, also do your best to learn some relaxation techniques especially breathing control. It would be worth keeping a diary and seeing if you can identify any triggers.

Do search on this site though.

My cardiologist referred me to EP and I have a consult with EP this Friday. They said they may be able to schedule my ablation end of this month.

I agree. The first time I went to ER, the nurses from my cardiologist ran me down there because the said my HR & BP were dangerous. And the other two times were for the side effects of the beta blocker, I was hoping they could give me something to flush it out quicker, because I was so dizzy, short of breath & light headed.

My GP organized my heart monitor, only because she thought I was crazy & thought it was all in my head & anxiety. So once she set up the monitor I switched GP. Now I’ve been seeing cardiologist since I got the results of heart monitor.

I'm glad you are seeing EP soon and may not have to wait long for an ablation. Also that you've changed GPs. It makes me so cross when they say it's all in your mind. At least the recording proved them wrong and maybe next time they see someone with the same presentation they will take it more seriously.

Good luck.

I'm sorry you had such an extreme reaction to medication. You are very young to be dealing with this and in the ER their treatment will only be for immediate relief, it won't be a long-term plan in managing your condition. Hopefully your EP will come up with a way forward. When do you see him/her?

Yeah I was just going to ER for the bad side effects of the beta blocker. Was hoping they could have given me some relief.

I see an EP this Friday. They said they might be able to do the ablation end of this month.

I’m even more fearful to take medicine after trying the Bisoprolol, so going to wait till I talk to EP.
