Definitely see your GP but cardioversion is not that reliable. You should talk to your GP about ablation. Take magnesium supplements too.

Hi, I can understand how you must be feeling. Cardio-version normally gets you back into sinus rhythm but it does not tackle the cause so AF can come back. I had ablation after discussing my situation with cardiologist. Ablation is normally done as day patient and tries to get to the source of the problem that causes irregular rhythms. However as in my own case it does not always stop AF coming back but then ablation can be carried out again. If you in UK probably be a long waiting time sadly.

Hello Charles, I remember your earlier post just after having the CV. Of course you are disappointed but as we said before, regardless of how long a CV works, its the fact that it worked at all that is important and because you felt significantly better when in rhythm, your consultant is more likely to suggest ablation therapy. They may also suggest taking rhythm drug such as Flecainide as a Pill in the Pocket to see if it can return you to NSR. Of course make your GP aware but if the hospital where you had the CV provided you with any follow up or contact details I would pursue that option as soon as possible. They may also try another CV but this time supported with additional medication but the important thing to bear in mind is that this is part of the treatment process so all is far from lost!!

Thanks for the advice flapjack...i think its just the disappointment...even though i knew the statistics of it working...and the fact it did for a while...on the bright side i have a controlled heart rate so could be worse..i will contact the ep nurse who did the cardio on monday and take it from there and if i really analyse it im only at the same point i was ten days ago...i live in manchester so there are a couple of centres that treat afib...regards

Like you, I have been disappointed with cadioversions as my three lasted, 3 days, 5 days and one week consecutively. It is not the GP that you should be seeing to discuss as he is not the specialist. Get referred to an EP as soon as possible, especially if you are in persistent AF.
