Can you take antibiotics while on apixaban?

I have been told that Amoxicillin is OK but to be on the safe side, suggest you ask your pharmacist......

The DOACs are not affected by antibiotics in the same way as warfarin but best discuss with your pharmacist.

Morzine : DOAC - Direct Oral AntiCoagulant (Many doctors are referring to them as this now) Instead of

NOAC = Novel Oral AntiCoagulants or None VitK Oral AntiCoagulant.

In other words any anti-coagulant other than Warfarin. Please do NOT call them 'blood-thinners'. They don't 'thin' your blood, but just slow down the clotting process, and thereby discourage the formation of blood clots that might do harm (stroke).

Your GP will tell which antibiotics are ok I have been on a few different antibiotics over the last year and have been on Apixaban for 2 years I can’t speak for others but I have had no problems, mind you I did double check with the pharmacist just to be sure .

Yes it is fine to take antibiotics when also taking apixaban. I was in hospital with flu and pneumonia and they gave me amoxicillin along with my apixaban and I was fine.

yes i take them twice a day i checked with my pharmacy when my doctor gave me doxycycline

I was also prescribed Doxycycline for bronchitis while taking Apixaban. Doctor and pharmacist told me there would be no incompatibility between the 2. Whenever I am prescribed an antibiotic, I always check with my pharmacist and ask him or her about incompatibilities with my current medications.

Hello, Unfortunately, I'm not medically qualified to comment on whether these two meds interact. I would agree with FlapJack's reply.

Pharmacists are most expert in this field.
