My mom had pvc ablation 2 days ago and now complains of chest pain at about 7 and just feeling tired. She has a knot at the entry sure but it doesn't hurt. Should I be worried?

If you’re worried call the ward and discuss.

However she was probably cardioverted during the procedure which can make the chest painful. The ablation comprises lots of little burns so that also can sometimes hurt for a few days but nothing major as a rule. The entry point can sometimes be a bit sore for a few days too but almost certainly nothing to worry about.

I had my ablation (for svt) around 7 weeks ago and I still get chest pains!! Not as bad as it first was but if I move in the wrong direction or rush around it can get quite bad. I have a small pericardial effusion (apparently it was there on the routine echo the following day after my ablation which I wasn’t informed about) I was called in for a repeat echo three weeks after the first and it remains there but hadn’t increased (which I am grateful for) but yes I still get a lot of pain. It can be quite frightening sometimes. I would definitely call the ward and discuss the pain.

Not too sure what you mean by a knot at the entry site, did she have stitches there? I had a lump which was a blood clot (hematoma) and it eventually dispersed.

She shouldn't have such pain and it could possibly be an infection, I would call her GP and ask for advice or dial the 111 NHS no.

Read our fact sheet on Recovering from Ablation. These sort of things are very common but if you are worried then call the arrhythmia nurse where is was done (They should have given you contact details.) It will take some months for proper recovery and there are many things they will not have warned you about.

Suggest seeing GP to rule out pericarditis, which can follow ablation.

I had this happen - tremendous chest pain about 36 hours after procedure...called my EP and was prescribed Rx of colcichine, a gout med which somehow works to fix this; says it's not uncommon but wow, it was painful!

pericarditis, I had this after ablation. Also had to go to ER to rule out heart attack. Call her doctor
