D-Ribose

I wonder if anyone has any experience of this supplement? I have been pointed toward because of other than heart conditions but the reading I have done seems to indicate that it can be also very beneficial for cardiac issues - including Arrythmias.

I have never heard of it and had to google. But it would be interesting to find out if it is helpful.

One of the " floxies" whose story I read had been particularly affected heart wise by her reaction to Ciprofloxacin. She swore by d ribose for calming her heart. Said she could feel the difference immediately.

Yes, I am currently reading Metabolic Cardiology by Stephen Sinatra, who is well known and his son focusses on the Naturopathy side; the book contains a whole chapter on D-Ribose and he clearly thinks it is important re AF. I haven't had chance to digest it yet but will probably consider taking this supplement after some more research.

Thanks very much. Would you let me know if anything if interest arises?

I follow Dr Stephen Sinatra,s supplement suggestions also , have found that L-Carnitine does really give you energy but am a bit hesitant about D-Ribose as it may give me too much of an energy boost. And being diabetic 2 I would have to calibrate what its effect is on my blood sugar - he pointed out that it may create a temporary spike but the thought of having to do testing all over again puts me off.

Interested in your response to it when you start.

I had diarrhoea for some years and couldn't work out what was causing it. Finally I wondered whether it was due to any of the supplements I was taking, so started to research them. The only one that had diarrhoea as a possible side effect was D-Ribose. So I tried not taking it and hallelujah - the runs stopped immediately and have never returned. This is just a warning - it doesn't happen for everyone, of course. But if you notice an upset stomach after you start on D-Ribose, then this could be the culprit. Other than that, I didn't notice any benefits from D-Ribose, but again it's an individual thing.

Hi Kath thanks - yes I saw that as a side effect & it has had that affect but only mildly & I have reduced the intake so only taking 5mg daily & having it every other day. That seems to be enough to have benefit for me. I guess like everything else it’s very individual.
