Is mitral valve leakage a follow on condition after having WPW, atrial fibrillation and a pacemaker fitted for total heart block?
Can things get even worse?
The good news is that this was picked up by Papworth Hospital during a recent CT scan on my lungs as they are following up on a module in my right lung. Had a PET scan and needle biopsy recently and it was found to be cancerous. Now waiting for a date to remove the middle lobe. I have been told that the cancer has not spread outside of the lung and that the operation will be a cure. Keeping all my fingers crossed that they are right.
I bless the day I did my research and chose Papworth Hospital to look after me and my AF.

I suspect a classic case of which came first the chocken or the egg.
Mitral valve leakage is a known "cause" of AF. The back flow can cause the atrium to be expanded and over time this can result in breakdown of the natural pathways.
Sorry to read all of your problems but as a cancer survivor myself I hope your apparent positivity is real as it really does make a difference. Go kick it!
Had some more tests before my pre op assessment and saw a cardiologist at Papworth today. Everything is ok to proceed now. She suggested that I take an ACE inhibitor and will get my GP to prescribe a low dose one for me. I am being strong, fit and positive.
My cardiologist told me mitral valve leakage is very common in older people and not usually a cause for concern, so with your other troubles please don't worry until someone tells you to 😊 Best wishes, hope your treatment goes well.
Thanks everyone for your helpful advice and good wishes. I need to be positive and get over this as I am going to become a grandmother for the first time very soon during the next three weeks 😊
