Anxiety meds and A-Fib

What anxiety meds are good to take with A-Fib? I am on Multaq (dronedarone), Losartan, Eliquis, hydrochlorothiazide, metroprolol. I am in US and this is my first post although I read all your posts everyday for years now and have learned so much! My internist had suggested a anxiety med last time I saw her but I refused since I take too many pills now but lately I am beginning to wonder if they would help me since I am always worried about something and as my husband says I am a wreck! With every ache and pain I feel like I am headed to the hospital for something major (have been there enough times with a racing heart!) So am wondering if another pill added to the mix would help.........

Thanks for any suggestions

Pam

Yes that is one brand name, but it is widely available as a generic.

Nutrition can play a huge part in anxiety - the worst foods for anxiety are anything with sugar in it but other foods can have a very beneficial affect for many people

I would try magnesium before trying any medication. Also get your vit d levels checked. Low vit d and magnesium can cause anxiety.

Diazepam and similar drugs along with a little bit of marijuana (legal in my state) has worked well for me . I am on Dofetilide and beta blocker to control afib and have had no problems. 67yo male..

So the weed doesn’t bother your afib? I also have blood pressure problem.

Doesn’t the marijuana trigger your afib, I’ve always read that it does?

Lorazepam (known as ativan) works for me and I suffer from the same type of anxiety and fear. I can confirm IT WORKS!

I also take lorazepam for my anxiety. I only take it when I am going thru something very stressful.

I take Kava, it’s always helped me. I’ve been taking it for years without a problem, I buy it on Amazon. But, read about and decide if you want to try it.

Zoloft has really helped me. I tried not to take anything for my anxiety but it wasn’t working well. I hardly have any anxiety now and if I do I am able to push it away.

My GP prescribed a low dose of Lexapro - 5 mg. a day. My cardiologist concurred. It is not addictive as many of the anti-anxiety drugs are. I keeps me from yelling at the TV (or tele as my British cousins call it). As a former pharmaceutical chemist, I stay away from marijuana, herbal remedies and any substance where the dosage cannot be standardized, where extensive clinical studies have not been done and where my treating medical professionals do not recommend. I do take magnesium taurate. I agree that magnesium is a valuable supplement for afibbers to take.

I haven't had one incident of the marijuana triggering afib since I started using it. I have read that is a possibility, but in my personal experience it has never happened.

Me, either -- with many years of use.

if you're going to use marijuana whether it be smoking it or eating it I think it's best to stick with indica and stay away from sativa.

The following very typical explanation from

leafly.com/news/cannabis-10...

Indica strains are believed to be physically sedating, perfect for relaxing with a movie or as a nightcap before bed.

Sativas tend to provide more invigorating, uplifting cerebral effects that pair well with physical activity, social gatherings, and creative projects

I agree with you Hilo regarding indica. Very good point.

I take lorazepam for my anxiety and it seems to work really well but I don’t like taking it as don’t want to become addicted do I take it only when something really stressful happens.

you are one drugs they gave me. dropped heart rate to 50s. Now no streous exercise. heart rate does not go over 95. tried spinning and at 150RPM still at 87. Eliquis stopps clots, and slows heart down so you cannot get to 140s in vent and Atrial is kept low and you have a steady sinus rythm. Again, new person on eliquis and amiodrone.

Hi Pam,

Quite honestly I would not recommend a tranquilliser as I know for definite they do not help in any such way as relieving any major stress or tension but do cause serious addiction long term. I did try them but due to the medication you and I already take, caused me to land up in A&E; rendering me with more problems and certainly did not help me in any way. By all means Pam get yourself real medical advice but keep in mind what I have already said, as after all, we're both in the same boat....................................Ron.
