You might want to consider a compound with not just Magnesium e.g. Heart Calm has been mentioned here a few times and I personally take Nutri Megamag Muscleze.

According to Mr Google Magnesium Taurate is more heart specific. It is also more expensive. If you have a sensitive stomach Magnesium glycinate is supposed to be less likely to cause upset.

I never underestimate the placebo effect for my own responses. Am trying to reduce my multivits and omega 3 and 6 which I have taken for years as I'm not sure that manufactured supplements do the same job as naturally occurring vits and minerals BUT, have started Mg Taurate!!! This is because I have great faith in Sanjay Gupta's approach. Finding a medical practitioner who talks sense is part of the treatment!!.

I take about seven supplements a day and some years ago I read the results of a study which said more people who take supplements died than those who took nothing. This was in spite of making adjustments for the fact that those taking supplements may have started because of health problems. I carried on though!

Irene I am a great believer in whatever works for the individual. If you have faith in your choices and are comfortable with them, that's all that matters.

I agree, but I worked out I almost spend more on supplements than I do on food... Something not right there!

I would want to know whose money was behind that study.

It was funded by 'various sources' including the National Cancer Institute and the Academy of Finland

The only confounders mentioned were age and smoking. It could be that those taking the supplements were using them as an insurance for not eating healthily rather than as a true supplement. Saying you can get everything you need from a healthy diet is too broad brush and takes no account of mineral depletion of soils from intensive agricultural practices.

I totally agree.

Hi reikmater,

The best form of MG++ to take is Magnesium Glycinate or Biglycenate.

They are the most effective form because they contain the amino acid Glycine .This is good for cardiovascular function and is also gentle on the stomach.

Good luck.
