I am currently taking 2.5mg of Bisoprolol and have been advised to start Flecainide as a PIP. The first dose needs to be administered in A&E. Should I stop the Bisoprolol, as they need to administered Flecainade when I am in AF?
I will check with the medics but wondered if anyone had an answer on here?

Flecainide would be there to treat a breakthrough of AF despite your usual treatment. Keep going & who knows? You may never need the Flecainide.
Doctors must ‘first do no harm’ so I think they would never recommend stopping a medication which might induce an episode of illness.

Generally no the Bisoprolol can prevent the Flecainide taking your heart into Flutter (or other arythmias). Everyone is different so I would not do anything without speaking to your Doc. For information Flecainide worked really well taking it daily for my Arrhythmia, but I was one of the few that went into Flutter after 3 months so cannot take it again, but for many it is a wonder drug.
I went into flutter after a week on flecanide as 200mg daily. Kept on it and put BACK onto bisoprolol....now off both and use solely as PIP. So we are rare birds then?!!!

we don't give medical advice but two things to bear in mind...
Bisoprolol is a betablocker and controls the heart 'rate ' it is recommended that beta blockers should be stopped gradually or side effects can occur.
Flecainide is mainly a 'rhythm' control drug so serves a different purpose to a beta blocker.
Please check with your doctor before changing the dose of any of your heart medication.
You need to take first dose in hospital,and should stay on bisoprolol if you are given the all clear to take flecanide. Thus us to stop any different arrthymia mutating from flecanide..such as A Flutter. (you will be guided by the medics there) fkec as pill in pocket works well for me,as does biso. Best wishes xx
Three years ago I had open heart surgery - ablation, bypass and valve repair. It's taken ages to recover (I'm a 69 year old male). I've been on many tablets including 5mg Bisoprolol, which made me feel ill.
Last August, after some research on the internet, I asked my doctor if I could switch to Nebivolol (2.5Mg). It made a huge difference and I have near normal blood pressure.
Sadly my heart muscle went down to LV ejection function 30%. I'm on a new tablet called Entresto which has brought it back up to 40% and the target is over 50%. The joys of heart problems eh?
I take both these meds every day, the flecainide twice a day and to be honest, I've no idea if it's either of these meds that cause some side effects as I also take other meds. I'm seeing my cardiologist next month and will discuss the meds with him.
All I know for sure is that the flecainide DOES stop the episodes if I have to take an 'extra' as a pip, though it can take up to a couple of hours to kick in.
