Medication Query

I am prescribed Bisoprolol and Apixaban.I have been taking these now a for a couple of years.I had 2 episodes of Afib but as far as I can tell none since.I wonder how often these medicines should be reviewed by a clinician? I am now due to have a review and wonder if I can come off them,or can I come off the Bisoprolol and continue with the Apixaban. Just getting myself informed before my medication review and welcome any of your expertise.

Kind regards

Personally I would never stop taking anticoagulation however rare my AF events might be. As far as the beta blocker is concerned there is one way to find out. Annual review of drugs is normal with my practice.

The phrase ' as far as I can tell' may be significant...some people are unaware of symptoms and therefore at risk of stroke if unmedicated. Plus..AF can return at will even after dormant periods. I am largely symptomless at the moment but keenly aware that AF and Flutter lurk......

Good luck xx

I assume that you continue to take medication even though you aren't troubled by too many symptoms?

Hello Biscuit :-) 6 monthly blood tests from your GP are recommended when taking Apixaban to check kidney and liver function.

I had an ablation May 2018. I got taken off flecainide and Bisoprolol in the September. The ablation has been largely successful but I still have short episodes of atrial fibrillation and flutter. Cardiologist decided for me to go back on a low dose Bisoprolol for the time being. I’m with Bob D re Apixaban, I’ve had a TIA. I would chat to your GP.

Hi Biscuit, can't add anything to other replies. I couldn't take Bisoprolol as it messed with my sleep patterns, now I take Flecainide and Apixiban, wouldn't want to stop the blood thinner though, for obvious reasons. I have yearly checks as no more A-fib since I began medication. Good luck .
