Ah yes I did google it to find out a bit more & sure they will give me more information when I have it fitted - I just looked on here & see quite a few posts about this so thanks very much - very anxious about getting it done
I understand your anxiety.I had a permanent device fitted into my heart.Went to see my GP at least 3 times to discuss it .Thankfully very helpful GP and reassuring and calm cardio/surgeon.
Ah ok thank you - I am new to this site so not really sure how it worked haha - I am 48 -had mini stroke last march & never ending blood tests/xrays/infections since so still off work so very frustrated with it but they saying maybe cardiac problem caused me to collapse so this device(not sure which one) will monitor my heart rhythm now - wary of putting me on meds as had few allergic reactions -fingers crossed this will help.
Just to to be sure we are on the same wavelength! I was referring to my anxiety re. GP and surgeon. My device closed a hole in my heart. It was not a Reveal device. The Reveal device from the little I have read seems to go under the skin.
ah ok sorry to hear that but hopefully you are ok now. I am also awaiting an enhanced echocardiogram appointment to check for blood clot and hole in the heart so think I am bit anxious about that too. but yes as u said the reveal is inserted under the skin so sure I will be ok just a bit of a wuss I guess haha. thanks for your reply
Re. hole in heart. If you are offered closure procedure do consider accepting it.My well being changed literally overnight after surgery.....and the procedure stopped further clots from going through the hole .I had had a TIA just before the hole was discovered. On account of this event the surgeon lost little time in operating.
Ah no I am glad you had that done very quickly then & will definitely bear that in mind if they do find anything - I had normal ecg back in may which said pfo cant be excluded & my cardiologist was horrified no one as followed this up since & that I have had to wait all this time but at least I am getting there -fingers crossed anyway thanks & take care
These devices are very common when normal monitoring fails to reveal a diagnosis. There are a few different types and sizes. They are not fitted into the heart but merely inserted unde the skin near your collar bone and there are even new types which are small enough to be injected withour surgery.
I have a Reveal device implanted. After a few weeks you forget it's there. No pain, no discomfort. It stands out a bit depending on the type of bra you wear (if you're female obviously). The only time I remember it's there is when I have to do a download.
Listen carefully to the technician who explains how to do a download. I was quite agitated when the guy was explaining to me and had to phone him next day to ask for a repeat talk-through.
I’ve had one for almost 2 years now. No problem with it all. “Installation” didn’t hurt, though I had some bruising after the procedure for a week or so. I can feel mine if I poke around for it. I know 3 other folks with them, only one has complained about it and that was because of where the dr placed it. Mine is tucked into my left breast and is pretty invisible. Doesn’t even get in the way of mammograms, to my amazement! Really helpful for identifying those intermittent and irregular heart rhythms. I was initially terrified of the idea of getting one of these. After my brother and a good friend got them, I realized it was really not a big deal and wished I’d done it sooner. Good luck!
ah thank you so much for hopefully putting my mind at rest now although on the day I will probably be a nervous wreck haha -I think its the initial installation I am scared of but sure I will be fine thanks again
