Just had my first ablation. Swallowing is sore and difficult three days later. Anyone else experience this and how long did it take to heal?

Hi Barb, it can take a while to get better. My EP explained that as well as the Transoesophageal Echocardiogram probe to check for blood clots they also inserted a temperature probe which was in their a while whilst they ablated the section of the heart which is right next to the oesophagus. I was prescribed Nexium twice a day for a few weeks after my ablation.
This is mentioned in our fact sheet on Recovering from Ablation and is very common. It should fade in a week or so but if you are worried speak to your arrhythmia nurse.
Mine took months to resolve but I found out much later that was because my oesophagus spawned & camera got stuck. I had an irritating cough & reflux also.
Hope yours will resolve much quicker.
Best wishes CD
It took quite a while and was probably the most uncomfortable part. I had very little voice and it remained husky for a long time.
Spasmed - not spawned 😂
Hi I'm day 7 tomorrow and mine is still sore and a have a sort heavy feeling around my breast bone area. The EP increased my omeprazole to 40mg a day for 3 months to help. I find I feel very over full after meals.
Thanks everyone. I can see that I’m not alone in this process. I guess that esophagus gets a pretty good roughing up.
I appreciate all the responses . Stay well
Barbara
